A Be Seen Bite About Being Visible

A Be Seen Bite About Being Visible

You can do more than you think and you can say more than you do.

Let’s talk for a moment about Visibility.

Being visible isn’t just a thing you do if you’ve had a background in TV, film production or in the media etc.

Your ability to be visible means that you can be seen professionally in the rooms, the roles and the areas of expertise where you need to be seen.

It also means that you can be heard with credibility, this includes having certain levels of gravitas within your professional space so that you can be taken, not just seriously, but even more seriously.

If you think about it there’s usually a sequence of events that create a bigger purpose.

If you think about your visibility or the act of being visible as the bigger purpose, I’d invite you to think of the Visibility Activator System?? as a collection of a sequence of events.

Make sense?

Here’s an example:

Let’s say that you’re looking to create the kind of visibility that has you seen as articulate in meetings, credible within your business or outstanding within your industry.

The sequence would go a little something like…

  • In order to be articulate when speaking out as a professional…
  • You’ll need to know how to sell your concepts, your ideas, and yourself well.
  • In order to be able to relay your ideas and get buy in from those around you, you’d benefit from some preparation time.

(So many people try to blag it and think the people around them don’t notice, let me tell you they do, they just won’t ever tell you).

But with time being one of our most in demand commodities, how do we make time within a busy work life?

A life where it’s celebrated to start early and finish late because of its perceived value, a life where the hustle and grind is often more respected than taking the path of least resistance.

And then there’s the old adage of never mixing business with pleasure.

This particular piece of the sequence harnesses the creation of being a little less human as people, or appearing ‘professional’, one that my clients trip over and into regularly. This hiding of who we really are for such a long time actually results in us not knowing who we really are, what’s most important for our path or what we stand for.

So professionally we tell ourselves stories that either:

  • we think others around us want to hear
  • we hope has people buy us or buy from us
  • we don’t have people understand the value we bring or why we do what we do

In essence we hide in plain sight.

And... in order to get there, we don’t give ourselves the time to think about the impact we want to make or do not work on the difference we are here to make. This to me is one of the most heartbreaking things about this Visibility work because as the saying goes,

why fit in when you were born to stand out?

So the key here is to review how Visibility can work for you.

  1. Mindset. Simply put is about allowing yourself to see things differently, and do things differently after all, what’s the point in trying to be visible when you look smell and sound the same as everybody else?
  2. Vision. In order to get to where you want to go, it’s important to have a vision. If you think about it how on earth are you going to reach a destination when you’re not clear on what or where that destination is. But be warned! This goes way beyond the S.M.A.R.T. goals methodology you may have learned on your professional path.
  3. Desire. Not a word many associate with their career, their business or their professional lives and here’s the ugly truth about desire. You’re likely to be trying to get away from things like being ignored, being passed over or not being taken seriously as you’d like to. Whereas a much lower percentage of the population are successfully striving for their visibility goals by going for what they want even when they don’t know how or it scares them.

That’s often where I come in as a Visibility Specialist. Whether you’re getting away from those things that irk you or you’re forging forward. Or perhaps you’re part of a high performing team, an organisation that’s willing for change or an ambitious and driven individual business owner or employed professional.
