Seeking More Meaning, More Magic? Find a few minutes....

?

Magic Moments are about being.?

?

They may last a few seconds, or minutes, perhaps culminating after a period of time, but regardless of the time horizon, which often we can’t always control, they require presence, focus, awareness & engagement.?

?

The reward- a memory that may last a lifetime, recognition for a job well done, a relationship elevated, self-efficacy bolstered, a life changed. It’s hard to measure the impact of a single moment but conversely, if you don’t commit the time and energy, nothing changes. Life becomes a blurry, busy, unmemorable mess. Is that what you signed up for? I didn't, no thanks, no interest!

?

No matter how senior and busy we are, we all have time. It’s how we choose to spend it that differs. We’re talking about a few minutes here and there for hugely leveraged impact. We often have more choice than we think. It’s about committing our energy during a small window of time, during which we are fully committed to being completely present and focused on the task or person at hand.?

?

Here’s a few examples taken from my role as Dad from the “Friends and Family” sphere of my life, over the last couple of weeks:?

?

He gave this one a good crack!

  • Took time to take stabilizers off bike, with only 10 mins prior to Hudson leaving for school. He rides bike for first time, with his friends watching and cheering him on and me running beside him (just in case)!
  • Dig the reservoir at the beach. Show the kids how to build a dam. Takes them >10mins back and forth to fill it, knock dam down, see water flow into lake / ocean (which is disproportionally entertaining it seems). They rebuild, refill, rinse and repeat. To be fair this one buys you some legit adult time, while observing, with occasional full-on, interventions!
  • Play 'tickle wrestle' with the boys in the lounge after dinner. Be a kid. Laugh and play!
  • Let him have a go a swinging a club without instruction. See how he does (as it turns out, better than Dad, albeit that's a low bar).
  • Get the guitar out. You may be no good at it but they look at you like you’re a rock star. I’ll never forget Harry’s smile- priceless...still working on his technique.

?

Future British Rock Star!

When I think about my purpose, to “create opportunities that inspire people to go forward as the ultimate version of themselves”, it starts with intentionality to impact, followed by a commitment to presence, combined with activation of some of my best-self principles. I’m proud to be infusing these three elements into the spheres of my life that matter most to me right now, so I have plenty of examples from my work and community involvement too. I simplify them all through my daily focus of “inspire, connect, advance”.

?

Have a go - find your magic!

You can go through the spheres of your life with this exercise and see how you get on- self, friends and family, work role, workplace, community, money.?

?

  • What are some of your recent Magic Moments??

?

  • How can you commit a few minutes into the spheres most important to you, that could create more Magic Moments for you and those you spend your time with?

?

  • What three focus words, would encourage you to create more Magic Moments??.....These should encourage impact, presence and best-self principles.

Just working through these three questions will help you seek and find more Magic Moments in your life. In doing so, you'll experience more engagement, harmony and meaning.

Enjoy!
