Frustration... an emotion that can be consuming, debilitating and toxic; triggered haphazardly in our personal and professional lives.
In the context of the professional setting, this can unfortunately become the underlying tone fueling discussions within the daily operation. With frustration comes misunderstanding and misdirection; quickly turning to accusation and judgement. Emotions like these are counterproductive; lacking true leadership as a result of the inability to adapt and change. Even worse, should this persist it can become the state of norm within an organization leading to complacency.
Instinctively, we seek the quick fix to problems. Unfortunately, reacting too quickly at times can be as detrimental as not acting at all. Instead of understanding the underlying problem(s) and true root cause(s), we look to provide a solution rapidly to pacify an irate boss, customer or to end a downtime event. However, this approach is not sustainable and usually leads to repeat occurrences.
As Leaders we need to demonstrate resolve. Before emotions rise and fuel decisions we need to focus, not on the problem rather in the act of being still. Yes, the action of inaction. Disconnect from emotion, slow the conversation down, listen and pause. When we can achieve this, clarity prevails. When we allow our mindset to clear, we can become more concise and deliberate in our actions not clouded by emotion. By achieving this state, we can visualize the desired outcome and forge a path on how to arrive productively. Reducing waste in time and resources, the end result becomes tangible, sustainable and received by our customer as acceptable.
The ability to change not only in how we operate as a business, but as Leaders that drive our teams is crucial to continuous improvement and long-term success. A Leaders role invariably is to provide inspiration.

4 年It is said, that we have two ears and one mouth, you're to use them proportionately! Something so simple people often forget. Especially in the workplace. It seems in corporate America, even in small businesses the manager/owner has its entitlement. What if the only thing they force was weekly or daily meetings? That within these meetings they truly listened and only answered if called upon. Unfortunately, culture is decided by leadership. Some push for things like an entertaining employee lounge, others babysit while on break! A strong, free culture should translate into larger dollar sales, strong customer service, all-around better experience for everyone. After all smiles are attractive, no one wants to be around negativity!
