No.
I’m not talking about validating your feelings.
Nothing against it, it's just that you need more validation to build your brand.
I’m referring to that “great idea” of yours.
You know, the one you told everyone it'll make you millions.
While I hope it does, I want you to validate it first.?
Validation is about not spending too much time and money in the wrong direction.
An average validated idea, beats a perfect theoretical idea...100% of the time
When I started in May 2020, I thought every jobseeker needed a workshop.
That was the business idea.?
While I got some early clients, the business model was not a validated one.
It has taken me another 3 months of testing and iteration.
Then, resume reviews ended up being the product.
I did 50+ free reviews in 3 months.
Then I started charging for verbal reviews. Then documented reviews. Then video reviews.
I learnt about the pain points and ways to address them.
2,000+ resumes later, this validated idea is the core of the business.
Moral of the story?
I needed market feedback to iterate.
I couldn’t have improved or sold anything, had I not sought validation on the workshops first.
You can’t optimise what doesn’t exist.
It's the exact same with personal branding.?
It’s less about knowing where to start, and more about sharing your truth.
If some of your ideas resonate with people, that's great!
Now you double down and optimise.
If not, share new ideas.

Don't share what you think people like, share your truth.
YOUR TRUTH.
Those who resonate are your target audience. (i.e. future clients)
Those who don't, will never buy from you.
Which brings us to the ultimate idea validation online.
Yes Twitter.
Trust me, I’ve tried them all.
While some work well in certain niches, nothing comes close to Twitter’s ease of testing.
You can share you raw thoughts and get instant audience feedback.
Twitter is validation at scale.
In the last 60 days or so, I ran a validation experiment.
I tweeted 10,000 times! (that’s not a typo)
I shared tweets on fitness, mindset, business, marketing and personal branding.
In the process, I got close to 1,500 followers.
The result??
I now know exactly what ideas get engagement, followers and ultimately, generate money.
I’m no longer guessing.
Without going too technical in the explanation, ideas that resonated were under 3 pillars:
With minimal guessing left, I'm now developing specific products around some of those pillars.
So next time you think you have a great idea, don’t think, test!
