Seeing the fork in the road

Seeing the fork in the road

We rarely have a literal fork in the road or a decision that is so clearly binary.

However, daily, there are tiny choices that will shape our becoming.

Often, these are decisions of degree between the known and unknown. Where we are confident and where it may feel risky.

Yet there is only one direction that grows hope…

THE UNFOLDING OF BECOMING

If we knew,

would we go there,

or choose instead

the safety of the familiar

and miss it all?

Or walk into

the welcoming,

unfolding,

unknown of

becoming, with

hope instead.

In writing yesterday’s post about the moments that create our becoming, I rediscovered this poem.

Love your poem Sue. The thing is, no matter how easy or hard, no matter how happy or tragic the events that unfold ahead of us, there will be moments of realization, growth, and joy even amidst great pain and sorrow if that is what is in store. Life is worth living in all its messy glory.

So many of my favourite words there Sue. Welcoming, unfolding, becoming, hope. My heart is warmed. Thank you ??

So tender and beautiful, Sue Heatherington. The poem captures that liminal space in between those tiny choices so perfectly well. I have learned that not jumping to conclusions right away is all it takes to sense which direction to take, which has nothing to do with 'over-thinking'. Instead, we tend to 'know' which direction to take if we just listen carefully enough...
