Seeds of Quality

Industrial Statistics (IS)

Industrial Statistics is a new technology, hybrid technology, defines and controls the engineering design, manufacturing, and quality in one setup. This is created to support the manufacturing industries only, it is an engineering function, traditional statistics has no room in this technology. Our manufacturing industries have seen and experienced the bitter or sagging performance with the application of traditional SPC & ISO, remove them from the engineering field. Do not make the same mistake again, do not mix engineering & statistics, these two are different in nature and purpose. Many articles have been written on this subject and are available for review on LinkedIn.

Once you have installed this Industrial Statistics system, you will be able to build quality products first time and every time. This is the way the IS (Industrial Statistics) works. We review the contract, to draw the delivery schedules and any other special requirements, review engineering drawing or model to see if any gap exists in there, any special attention is given. Once those checks have completed and corrected any gaps in the system, we create process mapping that helps the manufacturing process. We pay attention to each and every component and give due respect that component plays a key role in the final assembly. Software called R SPC is the key player of the system that helps the manufacturing process to build quality and reliability into the process. Once the parameters have been set and controlled, there is no need to duplicate the same again. Another advantage with this system is communication with the customers, and all the process owners to keep them updated with the working nature of the system for their information and compliance. We recommend the Second Party Audit & Approval of your QMS and eliminate third party audit and certification process; it is expensive and proven to be nonvalue added process.

?

The QMS supported by the model of old MIL-Q-9858 would have given more control to the system, if the management diligently defined the requirements according to the contract and the engineering design. Here the question is whether the upper management have given enough thought while creating their Quality Manual and Work Instructions. A well-planned Quality Manual and Work Instructions & Process Maps should have eliminated the failures or missing operations.

?

You just test yourself, go to the supplier’s work performance at their facility and ask for the MRB data. MRB data is the data of the parts and assemblies rejected for nonconformance and waiting for an engineering evaluation with customers approval. In another words, each Airplanes manufactured and delivered should have more than one deviation or we can say that each Airplanes is custom made, deviates from the original design, may be minor or major deviations depends on the critically of the deviation.

?

In the case of Alaska Airlines 737 Max 9, Door Plug flew off during flight, might have several reasons from workmanship, compliance to the parts list and components (Screws), tightening sequence of the screws with Torque Wrench maintaining correct Torques values, Operator certifying the working document with his/her signature or placing Acceptance Stamp to guarantee the operation has done according to the requirements of the work order. Another possibility is that the alignment of the holes on the Door Panel and the Fuselage might not have matched and because of the push from the management, operator might have skipped the operation and passed on to the next operation. This is in violation of the work ethics and quality compliance, but management might have overwritten to go ahead with the next assembly process to meet the Delivery of the Airplanes QUANTITY, monthly quota. Since FAA & NTSB are doing their own evaluation, they may come up with more discrepancies that lead to the failure of the Door Plug.

Oxebridge Report # 72 - [email protected] - Gmail (google.com)

The key takeaways:

1.??? ISO 9001 has seen a global uptick of over 17%, but ISO itself acknowledges the increase is due to increased participation in the ISO Survey by certification bodies, rather than actual increased interest in ISO 9001.

2.??? ISO is still pretending the increasingly unbelievable figures coming out of China are real. In 2022, China boasted an increase of over a quarter of million certificates in one year. There’s no way that’s real, but ISO is saying it is.

3.??? Meanwhile, India and Korea have jumped to the top of nations pumping out fake — but wholly accredited — ISO 9001 certificates. This is very, very concerning.

Industrial Statistics a Book published by the Dorrance Publishing Company. This book contains the history of many projects completed without the use of statistical principles. Second half of the book gives the details of the applications of the software R SPC program. This book is a good source of knowledge for the working people and the students in the Universities, Colleges and Technical schools. Get your copy from www.dorrancebookstore.com.
