Feeling a bit overwhelmed by random posts and excessive ads on your Facebook feed? This surge of irrelevant content is Meta's attempt to compete with TikTok through its AI-driven discovery engine. This algorithm tracks your interactions to suggest content it thinks you'll find engaging. While it can occasionally offer nice surprises, it often clutters your feed with content that doesn't interest you at all.
The good news is that you have some power to take control and tailor your Facebook experience. Here's how:
1.?????? Refine Your Post Preferences
Click the three-dot menu on posts to adjust visibility settings such as hiding, showing more, showing less, snoozing, or unfollowing. You can also manage ad preferences from this menu to fine-tune your feed.
2.?????? Engage with Feedback Prompts
Facebook periodically asks if you want to see more or less of certain types of content. Respond to these prompts to help customise your feed according to your preferences.
3.?????? Leverage Favourites
Add up to 30 friends, followed accounts, or business pages to your favourites list. This will make their posts more prominent in your feed and ensure you don't miss updates from your preferred sources.
4.?????? Interact with Key Contacts
Increase engagement with your favourite people by sending direct messages. This signals to the algorithm that you want more content from these sources.

5.?????? Browse Alternative Feeds
Explore feeds such as All, Favourites, Friends, Groups, and Pages on both desktop and mobile and interact regularly with content in these feeds to help the algorithm better understand your interests.
6.?????? Prioritise the Friends Feed
Regularly review your Friends' feeds and engage with posts from specific people. This encourages the algorithm to favour content from these friends. Be mindful that frequent posters may dominate your feed.
7.?????? Review Your Friends List
Periodically review your friends list. Remove people you don't know well or who post excessively and annoy you. This helps keep your feed content relevant to you.
8.?????? Update Followed Pages
Review the pages you follow and unfollow those that no longer interest you. Add new pages that align with your current interests to keep your feed engaging.
While completely eliminating suggested content isn’t possible, these strategies can improve your Facebook feed.
Have you ever put this much thought and strategy into curating your Facebook or other social media feeds? Doing so can improve your experience a lot and might even change your relationship with social media.
