This pandemic has done many a good things to our lives among that the important ones is that we are now used to attending n number of webinars and enjoy the motivational and professional content online in the comfort of our own homes or in the cool privacy of even our bed rooms.
If you take the time to remove the emotion from the motivational speaker’s talk and actually look at their content in the message, you’re going to see that there’s too much that’s wrong with what they said for you to actually be motivated by it.
To tell you frankly I won’t by lying, the emotions a motivational speaker can evoke are really great. They truly make you feel like you’re in control of your life, and that success is within your reach and that you can accomplish your goals. Even with my great dislike of motivational speakers, I still get influenced by that to a certain extent.
But there have been speakers with motivational messages that have influenced me. I met one senior professor in my own university who I had the wonderful opportunity to talk and build a relationship with. We were in touch a lot frequently and he has sent me a list of books that I should read and I felt that really made my education beyond the university made it really worthwhile. He restored a lot of my motivation and optimism as well, something I can’t thank him enough for even though we’ve fallen out of touch and nothing bad happened, just we haven’t talked in a while.
But by and large, I’m not heavily influenced by their messages anymore. Mainly because I know what’s behind their messaging and how it doesn’t actually hold up to reality when you view their message. The body language of the so called motivational speakers it self is a matter of discussion. The sole purpose of a motivational speaker is to move you to take action. They are skilled in speech, demeanour, analogies, cadence, body language etc, combining each of those aspects together perfectly, to get their audience’s attention, and maintain it. I think motivational speakers are great tools for when you’re struggling with motivation or passion.
Their life is much like that of my many friends who are musicians. People see the time that you’re on stage and performing and they have no idea of how much time is spent in preparation, travel, taking care of details about the events, communicating with clients, marketing your services, writing books/blogs/podcasts, and many other business activities.
The major difference between the speaker and the musician is that speakers usually travel alone. I fly to the event alone, I dine alone, I check in the hotel alone and speak to the audience that can range from hundred to thousand, and repeat the process. I’m not really complaining but it’s just an aspect of which very few people are aware. It’s a very lonely business. It is nice to be alone before you speak with full energy and without any bias of your talk to some one before the lecture. The past is history and this day is a new day.
It really works well for me as a speaker as every night is the opening night. The audience does not know and really does not care how you performed at any other event. You have to be your best every single time you walk on stage. Most professions will allow you a bad day or two and not this one, if you want your reputation to be stellar all the time. Here once you are on the stage you see eye to eye to the audience and you are in your element instantly with a big smile and your opening sentence is so powerful that the audience is just still.
The speaker isn’t what motivates you but he or she is merely the catalyst that helps you motivate yourself. That’s why some in the audience respond and some don’t obviously. The speakers who can attain personal satisfaction as well as professional success are the usually ones who can handle that distinction. I have seen myself some motivational speakers handle it well and others who always act as if they are “on,” even in private, personal conversations. The difference is that the real “motivational speakers” understand that there is no such thing.
Their everyday job is to motivate others with their speech. The sole purpose of a motivational speaker is to inspire peoples by delivering their speech. A motivational speaker also plans a holiday trip like us. They use to speak in large gatherings in seminars and summits. Motivational speaker prepares themselves in such a manner that they look like a role model in front of their audience. If we wish to test if we have been successful then just see moment the audience starts believing each word spoken by you, stay blessed! #kishoreshintre
