One of the key aspects of attaining agility is having effective and meaningful communication within scrum teams.
Agile is often a completely new way of working for teams and the increased communication it demands often becomes a struggle for some.
It is a good idea for the scrum master to work with the teams and establish some ground rules based on the Scrum value of Respect.
Every communication has three aspects, to speak and communicate, to listen, to understand and acknowledge. Face to face communications during the daily scrum allows us to infer and interpret body language and is without doubt the most effective manner of communication.
During daily scrum or any face to face meetings:
- Be present and attentive
- Be audible to everyone
- Articulate and express clearly
- Listen with complete attention
- Ask meaningful questions.
- Acknowledge your understanding with expressions or body language
During Phone calls, or online communication your audience will not be able to see your expressions or read your body language and hence it becomes important to practice Active listening.
Active listening is to acknowledge with words or sounds that you have heard or read what the other party has to say.
And fore mostly spread the cheer in every communication that you have even if with just a smile :)
