See How They Stumble
Recently, to cope with rising inflation, I have taken on a part time job as a cashier at a national pharmacy chain. While the position does give me the ability to interact with other people, which is greatly appreciated, as the current work from home position is isolating at best. The majority of the people I deal with are delightful though there is an alarming trend of mobile phone zombies march into the store, gazing into their phone only gazing away from the screen to keep themselves from running into something (which sometimes happens) or possibly to find what they came into the store for in the first place. Perhaps, like the bible prophecy, they are not meant to see corruption or that like Odysseus, they need to be tied to the mast to avoid being caught up in the sirens song. Of course, what else are we to expect with a constant doom scrolling being fed to us daily. Hopefully, like Plato's cave inhabitants, we will be able to break free and see things as they can be not as we are told they will be.
