Ground-Breaking Bulletproof Glass Capable Of Withstanding Heavy Machine Gun Fire

sedak GmbH & Co. KG ballistic glass HMG revolutionizes high-security applications with unmatched protection against armourpiercing ammunition and superior aesthetics.

Sedak, a global leader in glass refining, is setting a new benchmark in high-security glass. With the introduction of sedak ballistic glass HMG (Heavy Machine Gun), the company unveils a revolutionary innovation: bulletproof glass tested to withstand attacks using armor-piercing ammunition (.50 BMG API).

This ammunition generates an impact energy five times greater than that of the highest protection level, BR7. As a result, the glass can endure terrorist attacks involving heavy machine guns, paving the way for enhanced architectural and security applications.

The sedak ballistic glass HMG is a specially developed insulating glass designed to meet the most stringent security standards. In today’s world, where the risk of terrorist attacks is increasing, sedak offers an innovative solution for protecting individuals and buildings without sacrificing quality or aesthetics.

sedak ballistic glass HMG withstands extreme bullets such as the .50 BMG AP (12.7 x 99 mm) round (left), which delivers an impact energy of up to 15,000 joules – far exceeding the 3,300 joules that standard BR7 glass can endure (right).

This high-performance glass absorbs the energy of impacts from heavy machine gun fire (.50 BMG API) – a stress level exceeding the BR7 protection standard (as per EN 1063) by a factor of five.

Despite its unparalleled protective capabilities, the glass remains remarkably slim at just 124 mm thick (SZR 16 mm) and lightweight at 250 kg/sqm.

Thanks to its unique combination of extreme security and premium optical quality, sedak ballistic glass HMG is ideal for applications that demand heightened protection. Key use cases include:

  • 99 Private buildings and exclusive residences
  • Representative structures such as embassies and banks
  • Security zones in airports and public buildings

This ground-breaking innovation seamlessly combines the highest security standards with sophisticated aesthetics, setting new benchmarks for advanced architectural solutions.
