Security Symposium & Cyber Sentinels Awards 2019 : Why Does Zero Trust Matter in New Cyber Threat Landscape?

Attended Security Symposium & Awards 2019 - New Delhi and received "Cyber Sentinels Award 2019"

Key highlights of Symposium :-

• Data is the new oil, whoever controls it, controls everything. Traditional cyber security policies and controls are not adequate in today’s cyber threat landscape. Lack of strong data security and privacy policy at national level may become a challenge to National Security. Early and strong data security, privacy policy, IoT policy, AI policy, etc at national level may establish supremacy in data control within and cross border.   
• With blurring physical perimeter security and cloud adoption, control & monitoring of North-South(ingress egress) traffic is not sufficient. Hackers are able get into internal network using social engineering /spear phishing attacks and are able to exfiltrate data. Organisations may adopt zero trust policy, monitor and control East-West (internal) traffic also to protect data. This would help in taking actions while threat is internal.
• “India gave 0 (Zero) to the world, and we got 0-days”. Organisations need Next Gen technology to identify and protect against 0-days and lethal payloads that are used hacker. Newer technology to connect securely to cloud, data classification etc. are available that may be adopted to protect data.
• IoT security needs immediate attention. Minimum 5 basic security features to be evaluated before finalising a IoT solution.
• CISOs, who have contributed significantly in cyber security space were awarded in Symposium.  I am one of the awardee of “Cyber Sentinels Award 2019"
