Securing Votes & Scoring Points
Brampton MPP says he’s looking at ways to plug potential “loopholes” that could be allowing non-Canadians to drive commercial trucks without the proper permits and crack down on fraudsters in Ontario.
Ontario’s Minister of Transportation minister and Brampton South MPP Prabmeet Sarkaria said on Tuesday he’s exploring legislation that could cut down on possible cases of fraud in the province’s commercial vehicle licensing system and instances of visitors to Canada driving trucks without the proper permits.
Ontario Truck Driving School president Gus Rahim says the problem is getting worse.
OPP Sgt. Dave Rektor says we should expect a higher standard from those who drive professionally.
This all happened (only) when an investigation by Torstar reveals private, unaccredited truck driving schools use a loophole in provincial law that allows them to churn out poorly trained drivers.
Now everyone all of a sudden knows about the unregulated truck driving schools.
How they overcharge and students can practically buy a A-Z license.
Also it is said that these unregulated schools avoid government oversight by charging just under the $1,000 threshold the province has set for regulated courses.
So with minimal hours behind the wheel, students walk away with an A-Z license to operate a tractor trailer with air brakes.

Whereas all these factors have been common knowledge and are an open secret.
Questions here are our lawmakers and enforcement departments "clueless" or "incompetent"? - or perhaps both.
As innocent people can't be corrupt.
But still I say this is just talk no-one seems to be serious in fixing the problem, as they don't want to offend their vote bank and donors.
Trucking industry all across Canada has gone downhill, but since 2025 will be the election year, so got to sugarcoat pressing issues ( as usual) and just put all the dirt under the rug for the time being. Way to go Ontario Government | Gouvernement de l’Ontario - all I hope for is just some common sense and a realistic approach which at this point seems to be a far fetched idea.
