Securing IoT Devices Gaining in Awareness

With the total number of connected devices expected to reach over 45B deployed world wide by 2023, now is the time for IoT enabled Solution Providers to lay or update the foundation of their Device to Cloud security.

  • How do Solution Providers establish trust with and deploy security to the devices they deploy in the wild as the data collection point of their cloud based solutions?
  • As a Solution Providers' business ramps up from deploying 100's a devices a month to 1000's or 10,000's of devices a month, how do they scale their operations with minimal impact?

It's great to see that the awareness is starting to catch up to this looming industry issue. Frost & Sullivan recently released the study Securing the Connected Ecosystem: Leading Security Solutions and Approaches for IoT where these issues are not only discussed but solutions like CryptoManager IoT Security Solution are reviewed.

"A practical, simple and secure solution that can be easily and widely adopted by service providers is far more effective than a ‘super solution’ with only limited adoption. Frost & Sullivan believes that this is a highly effective approach that will improve Rambus’ competitive positioning in IoT security markets in the long run."

IoT Security Service is a turn key solution that is deployed against the IoT PaaS that Solution Providers are building their cloud applications on top of. Establishing trust between the device and cloud by authenticating devices based on cryptographic keys securely stored in protected areas of the device's chipset. Then providing zero touch provisioning by automatically provisioning these devices on the IoT PaaS and automatically generating and deploying encryption certificates to both the device and IoT PaaS. Allowing Solution Providers to provide best in class device to cloud security without requiring deep security expertise within their organization.

IoT Security Service builds on Rambus Security Division's 20+ year history of implementing applied cryptographic solutions and existing relationships within the semiconductor ecosystem.

If you're building or built your IoT enabled Solution on the Azure or AWS IoT platforms, please contact me to learn how Rambus can help you secure your device to cloud part of your solution.
