Secure your Work Phones with Helpful Software
At some point in our lives, we have all had to dredge through a morning commute to get to work. It’s long, it’s boring, and you can usually expect to add at least an hour (and no doubt some unnecessary stress) onto your work day in order to negotiate packed trains and tubes, or congested traffic and non-existent buses. But in today’s world, it appears that remote work is the future of business.
As a business leader, you should know this. If not, now’s the time to catch up! We can access many forms of information from anywhere in the world; it just takes a smart device and a signal. It’s amazing because productivity is increased. Your daily commute is a chance to get started on the workload so that everything can be tackled more efficiently.
Employees within a business should be issued their own work phone. Why? First and foremost, it shows that you, their employer, trust them enough with their own device, and rewards them for their hard work by allowing them to easily separate their work life from their personal life. A work phone allows your workforce to easily keep their professional life to one device. It’s much easier to oversee- they’re easily contactable and all personal matters are kept separate. Although it’s useful, there are still risks involved with having a work phone in order to work remotely. Phones are valuable, so they’re vulnerable. If it’s stolen and lost, confidential data for a business can fall into the wrong hands. Also, life can get in the way and phones can be damaged.
So those are some annoying things that you have to be aware of, but they can be avoided and here’s how:
Data Encryption Software
Data Encryption Software changes digital information into another form and can only be accessed through a key or password. This particular software is useful because it protects data whilst it is present on computer systems and whilst it’s being transmitted. Generally, the stuff that you need to keep confidential is protected in all aspects. It’s especially comforting to know that your data won’t be targeted as you’re trying to send it to someone and that it is protected in the instance of theft or loss. It’s effective but please bear in mind that it’s not indestructible, either. The encryption key can still be tried numerous times by outside parties until the right one is found, so make sure it’s strong enough. Also, make sure that the system is maintained as errors are gateways to hacking.
Remote Wiping
Remote Wiping is a system where data can be deleted by the overseer – most likely that’d be you, the business owner. Remote wiping can specifically target company information or take down an entire device or system. This would be an instance of a security breach. If your system is hacked, you can take away the information so that it can’t be used elsewhere. Obviously, the downside is that the information is lost altogether. This is why some argue in favour of a Remote Lock because the data isn’t automatically lost. Consider the options, and make sure you pick the right one for your business.
Password Protection
Password Protection is much more obvious than the previous two. It is a security process that makes information only accessible with a password. This is particularly useful for computers and phones. As the business owner, you will have to put password protection policies into place. Your employees will need to know how to create, store and change a password. Changing it regularly and ensuring that won’t be accessed by anyone but them is paramount to protecting your data.
According to , two-thirds of people own a smartphone with 33% of internet users stating that their smartphones are the most important device for staying connected. It’s only logical that work phones should be an integrated part of a business. Giving your employees a phone specifically for work, it means they can focus more. Their personal lives can be switched off at work, their work lives can be switched off at home. Keeping them both separate makes for a more relaxed and focused workforce. Having a work phone in itself is a security measure because personal information can be kept away from the workplace and employees won’t lose their own data should their work phones be compromised. With the correct amount of training, responsibility and attitude among your employees, investing in suitable security for your work phones can be extremely beneficial. The upfront costs may seem daunting but there is so much potential to consider in the long term.
