The basic need of every penetration tester is local lab environment in which he/she can install different types of vulnerable machines in order to practice and enhance ethical hacking or penetration testing skills. Virtualization is a technique which helps us to create testing environment and allows us to install as many number of operating system on a single host machine depending upon the hardware and memory of our system.
However, as this lab environment comprises of several vulnerable machines which must be having vulnerabilities, it is compulsory to isolate the lab environment from the main host. There are various types of attacks that an attacker can perform if we don't secure our virtual lab environment like VM sprawl, system sprawl, VM escape etc.
