Secure or not secure ?
According to a recent report issued by Kaspersky, 105 million attacks on IoT devices have been detected within the first 6 months of 2019. It is 9 times greater than within the first half of 2018.
On the other side, developers and vendors of IoT devices are saying that their products are secure, and we observe a dramatic acceleration in the deployment of IoT devices.
So, secure or not secure? There is clearly a distorted understanding of IoT security.
In fact, cyber security technologies are not efficient against cyber attackers if it is not properly implemented. For instance, using encryption technologies is often perceived as a guarantee of strong security. However, encryption is useless if the encryption keys can be easily discovered, hard-coded or guessed.
IoT ecosystems are complex and fragmented, security implementation could rapidly become a challenge, so a new approach is required.
A comprehensive and well understood IoT devices" Chain of Trust" is steadily gaining momentum. With a proper implementation of security at each stage of this Chain of Trust, number of cyber-attacks on IoT will be dramatically reduced. A Security Partner working on security and connectivity issues will also help to solve the integration challenges.
And finally, the answer will be.... secure!
