Sector-Specific Questionnaires for Identifying Challenges regarding AI Adoption in Pakistan

The purpose of the study is gathering data to figure out how competencies in artificial intelligence and allied technologies can be developed at the National level to support Socioeconomic development and support the Digital Pakistan Vision. For this purpose, there is a need to identify the current state of AI adoption in various sectors of society and foresee how they can be improved. The outcome of the stakeholder identification, survey, and subsequent consultation is to ensure we receive insight from every vital stakeholder and using their inputs, offer proper recommendations to the government for the digitization and automation of Pakistan.

The survey’s designed address various topics depending on the industry they were made for. From the maturity of AI in that specific industry, to the products being taken from research to market, all the crucial pieces of information were gathered and compiled to consolidate a complete pathway to the AI adoption.

Once the data is compiled, a gap analysis is performed to measure how far off Pakistan is from its international competitors. Highlighting the areas where improvements are necessary, and changes need to be made. Based on these recommendations, the government will act and implement policies that open opportunities and funding for potential AI product developers.

Impact of AI on the sector

This topic assists in understanding the viewpoint of the respondents concerning the impact of AI they see in their respective sectors.

Maturity of AI

This question is floated to gauge the amount of work done in the respective sectors concerning AI proliferation. What is your organization doing with respect to AI?

Human Resources

The reason for this question is to address the following concerns of the respondents:

  • Fear of losing their job to AI and allied technologies
  • Availability of trained staff
  • Need for training the current staff
  • Barriers to acquiring trained staff

Data and Computational Requirements

To understand the role data plays in respondents’ sectors/organizations/companies by soliciting the following responses:

  • Sources of data
  • Management of data
  • Data standardization
  • Data Accessibility
  • Computational requirements

Research and Collaborations

  • Level of research work regarding AI/ML and allied technologies in the sectors/organizations
  • Level of collaboration between academia and various sectors/organization in the field of AI and allied technologies proliferation

Investment

This question aims to understand whether the sector/organization is getting any funding/resources from the government for R&D and AI-related research or planned and what help can the government provide.

Location of National Centers in AI Research, Innovation and Entrepreneurship

This question aims at address that should we where these Centers should be located based on the ease of accessibility (in metropolitan cities) or in close proximity with the local industry

Risks

This question solicits feedback from the respondents regarding the risks they see in their efforts toward AI and allied technologies adoption.

AI Regulatory Authority

The question is floated to get feedback from the respondents about their views on the need for establishing an independent AI Regulatory Authority, its developmental and regulatory role
