“How do you lower the risk of burn out in your organisation, whilst still remaining ambitious and fast paced?”

WEBINAR

Replay this month’s webinar on EMPOWERING LEADERSHIP: How an Agile Mindset & Methodologies Create High Performing Teams

CASE STUDY

This weekend, I’ve been reflecting on the challenge given to me by one of my clients this year. They came to me with a concern that their employees were burning out, overwhelmed, and at risk of leaving (some top talent had already resigned).

The challenge was that the company was gearing up for much needed investment and had agreed ambitious KPI’s to achieve this.

Here’s what we did:

We asked the employees what they were experiencing and asked them to share their pain points. Then we:

  • Re-communicated the goal & the KPI’s
  • Gave training to leaders to guide their team to prioritise effectively with the end goal in sight
  • Played ‘Meeting Killer’ (hit me up for more details!) & cut out unnecessary meetings
  • Re-framed reaching out for help as a brave move that helps the company as well as the employee
  • Provided a Slack Channel for people to highlight the key frustrations that were winding them up
  • Were transparent about the problems we couldn’t fix quickly
  • Encouraged flexible working & provided the tools for asynchronous working

Importantly:

  • We haven’t demanded that everyone be more resilient ??♀?
  • We haven’t bought an EAP and considered mental health solved ??
  • We haven’t ignored the problem and hoped it goes away ??♂?

Let me know if you’d like a chat about what tools I used and the roadmap I followed.

WHAT I'M LOVING

Discovering the fabulous app that is ‘Profile for Slack’. I met with the founder, Yash, who told me all about it last week.

WHAT I'M LISTENING TO

You know this is always going to be the podcast HR Director's Cut, right?? Check out our recent episode?'The One Where Everyone Has ADHD'?to listen to us chatting with Jodie Hill from Thrive Law. We also recorded an AMAZING episode with Paula Reid the Adventure Psychologist in The One Where Everyone Avoids Conflict

WHAT I'M DOING

It’s been a full on month for us, with some exciting projects on the horizon. I’m looking for some in-house teams to beta test a live Agile HR course tailored to your organisation (show your interest).

WHAT I'M EXCITED BY

Have you heard of Humaneer? ?It’s a new app just for HR peeps. It’s being created by two incredible women, Kim Burns and Careen Redman-Matthews. I’m incredibly proud to be providing a Power Up for them and will be doing a special newsletter on them soon.

Q&A

Last week, I got this question:

Q: What tip would you give to someone starting out in HR?

My answer: I had to turn to one of my favourite movies for this ??. And it’s don’t make assumptions. ?Every business works differently, and every person is completely unique with their own lived experiences, traits, qualities and flaws. Ask lots of question and really get to the bottom of what’s needed.

Until then, I recommend you watch some Lock, Stock & Two Smoking Barrels and enjoy!
