There Are No “Secrets” to Success

Are you tired of the simplistic infographic 7 Steps to Leadership Success?
I’m sure you’ve seen them. Someone posts the 5, 7, or 10 keys or “secrets” to success, joy, peace, and happiness. Really, is it that simple? NO.
You’ll see hundreds or even thousands of people “like” or share them and state “Agreed. Yes. Or Amen!”
It’s the same stuff over and over again. I view them as a summary of the “greatest hits” of those who actually did the work and heavy lifting by thinking deeply about difficult issues and offering solutions or strategies to address them.
I wonder if the re-posters have had an original idea of their own.
Now, these lists may be a good thought starter for those who have little or no experience and are new to management or leadership. However, if you are an experienced manager or leader and think all you need to do is check a couple of boxes from these lists every day, you’re missing the point.
Becoming an effective leader or manager is hard work! It goes beyond a checklist. It begins with self-awareness and a commitment to personal growth, transformation, and to do the work required to connect, inspire, and develop a team.
Use the list as a reminder, but not as the game plan for leading and managing.
Better yet, create your own list based on your experience, insights, and perspective.

12 个月Totally agree with your post Ralph. However, most people do not take the time to respond and add their view of a post, even the ones they like. Then there is the issue of time, will they actually read through what was posted? I personally have a lot of viewers who visited my posts but didn't even take the time to Like or Otherwise indicate a response. I believe that the simplest post like a short synopsis infographic tends to get more traffic. I certainly also beleive that it's not necessarily the most comprehensive message but it can spark an interest that they may want to pursue with the company/individual that authored the post. Just my perspective Ralph best regards.
