The Secrets of Social Selling - a guide for everyone (week 2)
Your headline - a much under utilised item.
We often say that this is the most valuable line about you anywhere on the internet, and that's true. The mistake that people make is that they think everyone is looking for them and will be impressed when you tell them you are passionate bout whatever it is that you do.
The thing to remember is that LinkedIn is a very big place and there's an awful lot of people who might be more attractive to the buyer than you.
The problem is that you just have words and so does everyone else.
We have all fallen in to the trap of of thinking that using more beautiful words or more impressive words is better.
They all say the same thing but is one better than the other? Probably not.
Let's put this another way. IN trying to be impressive many people write that they have 20 years experience doing whatever it is that they do. They say this is if I will slap my forehead and say "thank heavens I have found someone with 20 years experience"...which of course i won't.
As the writer we tend to think that length of service in some ways equates to quality but when we are the reader we know it doesn't (expertise and experience are not the same thing).
So if you are wedded to the idea that 20 years of doing something is impressive and that you are therefore better than someone who's only been doing it for 5 years we should conclude that 25 years is better than your 20...so I win.
What we need to do is to use this headline to grab people's attention in the hope that they will stop and read more about us.
"Widget Wizard" is therefore much morel likely to engage the casual browser than "25 years experience in widgets."
Over the years we've worked with some incredibly talented clients who have written some wonderful headlines that truly make them stand-out.
The challenge is, obviously, that your headline needs to try and condense everything about you in to just one line.
Perhaps think not about what you do but about WHY you do it, think about who you are in the most authentic way, or perhaps just something that has captured your imagination...
Whatever you write it need to be YOU and it need to be unique (as you are) because if you are a {insert job here} there's an awful lot of people who look just like you.
Even if you try to go down the "thought leader" or guru route you will still find there's a lot of people who have had the same idea.
So look inside yourself and see what you can say that reflects the real you.

Typically Social Sellers have a much greater ability to start conversations with their ideal customers and as a result have a more robust and dependable pipeline and typically close more business than their noon-social counterparts.
