In order for YOU to have this still, lets begin with what I call the "Empathy Exercise" – a simple yet powerful practice you can start today. Every day, I would suggest to carve out time to truly listen to those around you. It could be a team member discussing a project, or a family member sharing their day. Push aside distractions, your preconceptions, and your desire to respond. For those few moments, just listen. And zero in on the person in front of you!?

As they speak, endeavor to understand their feelings, perspectives, and motivations. Ask open-ended questions to dig deeper. Mirror their emotions subtly through your body language, facial expressions, and verbal responses. Show that you genuinely value their thoughts and feelings. This act of being fully present and engaged demonstrates empathy and begins to forge deeper connections.???

Set aside quiet, uninterrupted time each week for this exercise. Sit in a place where you feel comfortable and can reflect peacefully. Grab a pen and a notebook, or your journal and answer the following questions honestly:

  • What are my core values??
  • What motivates me?
  • What are my strengths and weaknesses?
  • Am I being true to myself in my interactions?
  • ?Is there a gap between who I am and how I present myself??
