The secret story behind Apple's name and logo
Did you see the movie "The Imitation Game" ?
Then you were probably taken away by the compelling story about Alan Turing. A completely unknown man to most, that helped save thousands of lives. His machine that permitted to decode secret Nazi messages was a revolutionary design at the time.
But he also started a revolution he never saw the effect of : creating a machine that was truly the ancestor of computers.
In todays relatively tolerant western societies, seeing how he was tortured just because he was homosexual, is not less compelling. The harsh view of society on such a man brought him to take his life, by poisening an Apple and biting into it.
Steve Jobs knew Turing's story well, and he probably never imagined that the symbol of homosexuality - the colours of the rainbow, and the apple that Turing took his life with, would only a few decades later symbolize one of the most valued stocks in the world. Let us not forget the values that stand behind these
symbols!
