Let's say two people are trying to manage pain and improve their fitness through exercise.
One of them, we'll call her Sarah ????
has done some research and understands the science behind how exercise can help manage chronic pain and improve her fitness.
She knows that exercise can help reduce inflammation, release endorphins, and improve joint mobility and strength ??
Sarah also understands how regular exercise can help break the cycle of pain, anxiety, and depression that often accompany chronic pain and poor health.
The other person, we'll call him Mike ???
doesn't have a strong understanding of the science behind exercise and pain management.
He knows he should exercise to manage his pain, but he doesn't really understand how it works or how it will benefit him.
He simply knows it's something he's ‘supposed to do’.
Now, imagine both Sarah and Mike have a stressful day or maybe a flare-up of pain and are feeling discouraged and unmotivated ??
Sarah is more likely to push through and continue exercising because she understands the "why" behind her workout.
She knows that the effort she puts in will lead to tangible benefits for her pain management and overall well-being.
In contrast, Mike may be more likely to skip his workout because he doesn't fully understand the benefits.
This example shows how understanding the "why" behind exercise and pain management can increase motivation and drive consistency.
When we understand the benefits and purpose behind what we're doing,
we're more likely to stay committed and make choices that support our goals, even in the face of pain and challenges.
