The Secret Recipe to an Unforgettable Logo Design.

The secret recipe is in your hands now!

Guard this with your life!

Like any good recipe, certain ingredients are required to make it tasty and enjoyable.

Logo design is no different.

A recipe is required to take a logo from tasting MEH to HOT DAMN!!

I’ve been fortunate to design hundreds of logos since I began my career in 2002. It took me years to create this formula, and I’m releasing my secret recipe to you for the first time ever.

A snippet of logo designs I have created since 2010. I've been doing this since 2002!

So guard this with your life.

Step 1. Pour into the bowl one part STORY

  • To create a Story you need 3 equal parts of who you are, what you do and why you do it.
  • Getting these three parts requires you to think about:
  • All logos need a story. It builds deeper emotional branding with your customers and employees. Your company is unique and has a different story from your competitors. So why not stand out instead of blending in?

Step 2. In a separate bowl, add one part UNIQUENESS

  • To create Uniqueness, you need four parts - icon, symbolism, spin and negative space.
  • Creating these four parts requires you to research and sketch out ideas.
  • Stay away from checkered flags, crossed tools, racing lines, car parts or vehicle silhouettes. These elements if used should be secondary. I highly recommend you stay the fuck away from these at all costs.

Step 3. Pour STORY & UNIQUENESS into one bowl. Mix well. Once it has an even consistency, you must check it for VERSATILITY.

  • To check for Versatility, you will need to be aware of 3 things: sizing, usage and readability.
  • Creating these 3 parts requires you to consider your logo's big picture. Where will it be marketed? Don’t overlook any type of application. It doesn’t matter if you are strictly a web-based business. There might be a moment where you require your logo printed on a car, t-shirt, removable tattoos, billboards, etc. Create your logo to be versatile.

Step 4. Bake and use.

  • Once it has fully baked, your logo is ready to use. It is important to remember that your logo is your brand’s workhorse. It will be used everywhere. Set guidelines and usage variations for your logo. If a specific shade of colour is used in your logo, make sure it’s always used.

I have been using this secret formula since 2010, and it has not disappointed me. Now it’s in your hands. Use it wisely and be sure never to skip a step. Logo design is important. Designing logos that last the test of time takes skill and creativity.

How is your logo performing?

Send me a private message with your logo and I will voice note you ways you can improve it for free...

"Stay away from checkered flags..." Yup That reminds me, decades ago, probably the early 80s, I did a logo design for a local real estate company and used a stylized oak tree because every other local company had some version of a house silhouette. Nobody used a tree. The client hated it. I think they had someone else do a logo with a house silhouette. Oh well.
