There’s no question that we’re living in heightened times of uncertainty.?
Some would even say a “dark world”: inflation, stark political divides, a soaring mental health crisis, ongoing wars and daily reports of senseless shootings.
It’s easy to feel fear.?
To feel disgust…
To feel disconnected.
While this disconnection and dissatisfaction plays out collectively in our world…
Many strong, successful women privately, are fighting their own inner battles of disconnection and dissatisfaction - with themselves and? the choices they’ve made, their careers or partners they’ve loved.?
People-pleasing, overachieving and perfectionism - behaviors rooted in hidden beliefs of “I’m not enough”... Or “I have to prove myself to be lovable”...
These habits may be partially responsible for why she’s so successful to everyone around her.?
And in many ways, these behaviors have created a sense of emotional safety for her…
But they’re also the very reasons she feels so disconnected and isolated behind closed doors.
The very habits that she relies on to be liked, to be successful in her career or marriage…
Are the very habits that create disconnection, perpetuate feelings of isolation and separation and block the very things she’s longing for the most: Acceptance and belonging.
The key to truly experiencing acceptance and belonging isn’t through more achieving.
It’s in laying down the decades-long habit of proving her worth through hard work and self sacrifice.?
On The Nancy Levin Show podcast, I recently had the pleasure of sitting down with activist, social entrepreneur and author Sara Surani to discuss the power of community in healing both collective and individual trauma…and how feeling heard, seen, validated and safe with others leads to living a more colorful life in a world that’s shrouded in darkness and shadows.
As you ponder the ways in which you seek connection…but that in reality, creates more disconnection… I invite you to ask yourself:
Even if the world around me feels dark, how can I live my most colorful life??
