The Secret To Living A Life Of Adventure And Passion

“Life is inherently risky. There is only one big risk you should avoid at all costs, and that is the risk of doing nothing” - Denis Whitley

Are you going through a life situation that makes you feel frustrated and unhappy?

Have you ever felt that your friend’s life seems to be better than the one you are living?

Do you have a deep longing in your heart to turn things around? If yes, let me tell you a story…

A few years ago, I was in your situation. Back then, I was working for a reputable firm, commanding a decent salary. I was comfortably meeting all my needs and wants.

But that didn’t feel like enough. There was something in me itching for more and better although I had most of my needs and wants met.

And that’s when I decided to quit my job and come out on my own. I haven’t gone back since and things have never been the same after I made that decision.

Since then, my life has been akin to that of an exciting adventure. Every morning, I wake up with a lot of enthusiasm and give my best every day without any regrets.

I don’t feel the need to drag myself out of bed with an alarm each morning… because my enthusiasm takes care of that.

This previous blog article of mine 3 steps to overcome frustration and feel optimistic will help you break old patterns.

However, it’s not been an easy journey. My goal was to do my own thing and be successful at it. I am already there but there’s still a long way to go.

And the entire path wasn’t a bed of roses. It was filled with thorns that pricked me every time I tried to move forward.

That’s enough about me.

Just like me, you too might be sitting with your own goals and ideas. You might have a few challenging goals that you want to achieve but don’t have the courage to go after them due to fear of failure or fear of success.

… which is why I wrote this article. You see when I decided to go out on my own, the path was definitely not easy. I’ve made a lot of mistakes that have taken me off-course.

But by persevering on my goal, I’ve been able to make significant progress.

Over the years, I have learnt the following four things that have helped me successfully go out on my own and accomplish my goals. If I can do it, so can you.

Just Do It

I have seen many brilliant ideas that have been wasted by over-thinking. Nothing happens until you step out of your comfort zone.

The key is to actually take action rather than just planning it in your mind for months and years, without allowing the “Why I can’t do this” excuses to get in the way.

Once I make up my mind, I just go on my own and do it. So with your goals and objectives whatever they may be, just go after them and start.

Will it be easy? Maybe, maybe not. Will it be rewarding? Absolutely. You will be amazed as to how things will turn up.

This article by Dr. William R. Klemm shows a brilliant insight into the “Just Do It” attitude”.

Don’t Retreat. Choose To Swim And Cross Over

There were many times where I had to make a choice right after I started moving towards my goals. These were the 3 choices I was confronted with:

1.  To retreat

2.  To continue swimming and cross over

3.  To sink due to paralysis by analysis

And whenever I made the choice to swim, it has paid me back 10X times. You see… we humans are naturally programmed to turn back on our goals at the first instance of failure. That’s exactly why many of us struggle.

Whenever you are confronted with such a situation, make sure that you swim and keep going.

Learn From Your Mistakes

When doing something new, it’s best to get out there and start making as many mistakes as you can. You will mess up, people will correct you and you will learn. There is no other way to become an expert in your chosen field without making mistakes.

I have made many in my own journey, but have never failed to learn from it. In fact, some of my biggest life realizations have come from my mistakes.

Do not be scared of making mistakes. Be brave and embrace it by looking at it in the eye. Most of the mistakes we’ll commit on our way towards our goals are rarely fatal. It’s not a life and death situation.

This video by Dr. Ron Ross will help you realize why it’s important to learn from mistakes and how to go about it.

See Your Same World Through A Different Lens

Even though your current life might frustrate you, you can actually stop feeling that way if you look at it through a different set of lenses.

It doesn’t matter if you’ve been doing the same thing for the last couple of years without much progress at all.

Just change your perception and consider your past to be your preparation for the present. Once you change your perception, the new world-view will allow you to approach the same tasks with more vigour and passion.

This insightful talk by Alison Ledgerwood throws some light on why we do find it difficult to change our thinking for the better and how to overcome it.

It certainly hasn’t been a smooth road for me in the last few years. There have been lots of twists and turns along the way. But in the end, I’m better than where I had started and am moving fast towards my dream.

If I can do it, so can you.

ABOUT ME

With an industry experience spanning more than a decade, my last assignment was being the Head of Operations of a Large Delivery Center based out of Bangalore. I then chose the Entrepreneurial Path to leverage my industry experience as well as serve my higher purpose of transforming the lives of people.

It has been close to a decade now working as a Professional Coach with high profile executives and helping them get to their breakthrough in the areas that matter the most to them.

My niche area is to help professionals get unstuck and find a more meaningful purpose in their lives. I genuinely understand when clients say that they’re looking for a change, but don’t know what it is or how to achieve it or keep postponing it for a tomorrow which never comes. I've been there, done that and got the badge.

Through my professional coaching over the years I have had the privilege to work with some of the most successful executives working for EMC, IBM, Cisco, Wipro, Infosys etc … business owners & industrialists, to help them transform their lives & business through my coaching engagement, speaking assignments, books and published articles.

That is not all … Having interviewed some of the top CEOs across India and having done extensive research for my upcoming book, I have got some deep insights about high performance executives.
