Randomly yesterday I received 2 requests for the same thing ??
One was done well and the other one wasn’t ??
I like both of the people who asked and both deserve a great review of their work. However their ASK is what got my attention.
The first one:
Hi! We haven’t spoken in a while, but I would appreciate it if you could share a review of my work. If you can’t, I completely understand. No pressure.
2nd request:
Hey, hey! I need a favor. Can you send me a review of my work? Check out the ones that have come in so far this week—attached. I'm putting them all up on my site, and I want to make sure to showcase yours because you are a star! Thank you!
Couple of takeaways:
1st one - if you don’t believe in yourself, why would anyone else? Don’t detract from the ask by nullifying it. ??
2nd one- be bold. Show examples of what you’re looking for and create an idea of community. Give ideas so you make it easy for the other person to think of what to say. This is how I asked famous authors to endorse my book - I provided multiple variations of possible endorsements so they just picked the one they liked and put their name on it. Make it easy. Show how the person will benefit or be highlighted somehow. Make it about them. ??
We are all in sales. Sometimes we just don’t realize it. ???

6 个月It never ceases to amaze me that people who say "they are not a salesman" turn into the greatest salesperson when it matters. When they have that car in their driveway that they want to sell; when they need to "sell" themselves to their boss for a raise. We are all in sales. Sometimes we just don't know it!

6 个月That is the number one challenge for this job search is asking for help from strangers. The hardest sale is selling yourself, I am relearning quickly! My takeaway from this Takeaway: Ask! Even a No or the dreaded Silence is feedback to use for the future.

6 个月Love how you said, “a closed mouth doesn’t get fed.” So true. You have to be willing to speak up. Be bold. Ask for what you want. Or at least make it visible. And if one person says no, don’t give up. Keep asking. There will be “yeses.”
