The secret to getting more done without working more hours

We are fast approaching another weekend and for some of you, that weekend may not come soon enough - particularly if you have found this week to be a long and draining one!

One of the biggest myths in business is that working harder equals better results. I talk to business owners all the time who are grinding 60- or 70-hour weeks, but their business isn’t growing.

The truth? Sometimes it is necessary to put in a long shift and for a short period of time, ploughing lots of hours in to something is needed; however, on a day to day basis it’s not about working more—it’s about working smarter.

Here’s how you can start to work smarter today:

  • First, batch similar tasks together—emails, calls, and admin should be done in chunks, not spread throughout the day.
  • Second, use the “one-touch” rule—if something takes less than five minutes, do it now and be done with it.
  • Third, set boundaries on your work time—forcing yourself to finish by a set hour makes you more efficient.
