I want to share a secret to a fulfilling career????, and it might not be what you’re expecting…
Career Priorities
Without fail, all of my client’s value "making a difference," "making an impact," or "helping others" as one of their top career priorities. That's one of the many reasons?I love working with people like you—you care, and you want to make a lasting impact.?However, this drive and ambition can often conflict with other areas of life, such as your family, relationships, and health.?There’s nothing quite like the guilt of missing a sports day or a school play to make you reconsider your life choices!
An Uncomfortable Truth?
Although you might say that family comes first,?your actions might reflect an uncomfortable truth at times: under pressure at work, you may forgo your health and relationships for work priorities and deadlines. There's no judgment from me—I’ve been there myself. In fact, results from my?recent poll on LinkedIn ?revealed 41% of people who voted said they were spending the most time, energy, or money, on their career, 40% said family, 14% voted health, and 5% said ‘something else’.
Time, Energy, or Money Filter
We all filter our time, energy, and money through a series of values, whether consciously or unconsciously.?You only have to look at your calendar and bank balance to get a sneak peek at your value system.
Now, imagine I have two clients. One has career as their top life value, and the other has family as their top life value. The person with career at the top will filter all choices through the context of putting career first, while the other person will filter all choices through the lens of family first, then career. There’s no right or wrong, good or bad—there is just conscious awareness and choice. Either way, there’s still a problem:?both of these people will still put themselves into deficit over and over again for work and/or family.?Without planned rest and recovery time, this can compound into severe consequences over time.
???So, the secret to a fulfilling career is?actually to put your health at the top of your life value system.

4 个月An interesting insight. Sometimes it can be hard to notice those cues that the health/career/family balance is off kilter, I find.
