The Secret to Career Growth is Consistency. Here's why.
Adria Solutions Ltd
Making Recruitment Personal, Not Pushy. That's why we're one of the UK's most trusted Digital & IT Recruiters.
We've all been there. We're eager to take the next step in our careers, but we find it hard to stay consistent with the small, daily actions that will get us there.
Whether aiming for a promotion or considering a move to a better role, consistency can often be the difference between staying stuck and moving up.
Who has the energy to post on LinkedIn, network or keep learning when you get home after a long day of meetings? How do you stay on track when life and work are already demanding?
Here are four tips to help you gain momentum and gain consistency:
1. Set Clear, Achievable Goals
It's easy to get overwhelmed when thinking about career progression, especially if your goals feel too big or far away in the future. Break them down into smaller goals to avoid feeling overwhelmed and losing motivation.
So, instead of "I want a promotion," think "I want to develop skills in X and get more visibility with my boss." Clear goals help you stay consistent because they're actionable. Write them down, track your progress, and celebrate small wins!
2. Create a Simple Routine
Consistency thrives on routine. You don't need to overhaul your already busy schedule. Instead, try carving out 15–30 minutes each day to focus on your career development.
Whether it's networking, updating your CV, or learning a new skill, regular effort compounds over time. Blocking the time in your calendar as you would for any other important meeting works wonders!
3. Build a Support System
It's much easier to stay consistent when you've got people holding you accountable. Whether it's a mentor, a trusted colleague, or even a recruitment consultant (wink, wink), sharing your goals with others can keep you motivated. Plus, your network can give you access to insights and opportunities you hadn't thought of!

4. Keep Your Eye on the Long Game
Progress doesn't happen overnight. There will be times when you don't feel like you're moving forward at all.
Remember, consistency is about persistence, not perfection. Stay patient, and remind yourself why you started. Visualise what success looks like for you, and use that image to keep you focused.
It's all about showing up for yourself. Stay consistent, and you'll see the progress you're after. You've got this!
