The Secret Behind the Lowest Loss Ratio in Our Portfolio??

There is a hard truth in risk management that many transporters overlook, no technology, system, or quick fix will improve your risk profile. The reality is that the best-performing transporters, those with the lowest loss ratios, are not necessarily the ones with the most advanced tracking systems or the latest artificial intelligence-powered tools. They are the ones who master the basics and execute them relentlessly.
One of our top clients is heading into their busiest season, and they are facing an overwhelming challenge, they need to recruit 100 new drivers. The thought alone made me wonder how they would maintain their operational standards while scaling at such a rapid pace. Their approach? A painfully simple yet incredibly effective process.
They use a driver screening company to filter candidates, but here is the key point, they do not stop at just the initial screening. Every single driver recommended to them undergoes a practical test before they are hired. The results are staggering, out of every 30 drivers tested, only one makes the cut. That is a 3.33% success rate. This means that to meet their requirement of one hundred new drivers, they will need to test a staggering 3,000 candidates.
Yes, this process is slow. Yes, it requires massive effort. However, this one discipline, the meticulous selection of drivers, is the single biggest factor in their industry-leading loss ratio. Their exact words to me were: "29 of the 30 drivers we test cannot reverse a superlink properly, but they were screened."
It made me wonder how many transporters truly invest their time and resources into such a rigorous selection process. How many are willing to endure this painstaking effort instead of settling for the next available driver?

Working with this company is an honour. Witnessing their commitment to excellence, their refusal to cut corners, and their deep care for their operation is truly inspiring. They do not just want to be good, they want to be the best.
Sometimes, the basics yield the best results. Yet, in business, we are constantly searching for quick fixes, new technologies, software, and automation, hoping for an instant improvement. However, the truth is, there are no shortcuts to excellence. The best companies do not settle, they build a strong foundation by ensuring only the most competent drivers take the wheel.
PS: The difference between mediocrity and excellence is often just doing what others are not willing to do. In the race to the top, the basics done with discipline and precision are your greatest competitive edge.??
