The year 2024 began with a stark reminder of the critical need for effective weapon detection systems, as a mass shooting on February 14—following the Kansas City Chiefs' Super Bowl parade—highlighted the threat of firearms in public spaces and reignited discussion about gun violence in America. As we look at the current state of affairs in 2024, the data paints a sobering picture.

*The Gun Violence Archive defines a mass shooting as an incident in which at least four people are either injured or killed from gunfire, not including the shooter.
The big picture: With 206 days passed in 2024 and 310 mass shootings reported, the country is averaging over one mass shooting per day and could break over 600 mass shootings for the fifth year in a row.
Unfortunately, public gatherings are not the only environment where we see the consequences of a lack of weapons detection. School shootings in the U.S are still on the rise with 35 school shootings in the United States so far this year, as of July 11. Nine were on college campuses, and 26 were on K-12 school grounds.
