The Second Wife Episode Five

When Nina returned from the market, she was really tired. She took the food items she had bought for Lily to the boys quarters. Lily was happy that finally she had someone who would be doing her shopping for her once again. She was in the living room when Nina returned from the market and lay the items she bought on the small table in the room. When she was done, she started leaving the room silently.

"Where do you think you are going? The food cannot cook itself. You have bought the food items, who do you think is going to cook it?" Lily asked Nina who had reached the door and was about opening it to leave.

"I'm going back to the main building to rest. I have stressed myself so much and I think I need some rest. I will not be able to cook for you. Remember the instructions my husband gave? He said I'm no longer your house maid and that I can not be stressed with errands because I'm pregnant." Nina said.

"Well, forget about what your husband said. You are going to do as I say, not what your husband said. You will turn back, enter the kitchen and prepare my food for me just the same way you used to before you snatched my husband from me. When you finish cooking, you will serve me the food, then you can go and rest." Lily said.

"I'm sorry, but I can't cook for you ma. I can't enter that kitchen. I'm pregnant and I don't want to be stressed. I'm not your cook, neither am I your house maid. I'm your co-wife and you will accord me the respect I deserve." Nina's voice was becoming louder and intense. She was speaking her mind without fear but Lily was also prepared for her.

"I don't want us to go through this route always. I just want you to be an obedient girl and I will keep your secret safe. However, since you are giving me headaches, I will just take my phone and forward this video to my husband through Whatsapp. Have you forgotten I have your secret at the tip of my finger? Don't push me Nina. If you push me, you will see what I can do. Enter the kitchen and start cooking or you will have yourself to blame." Lily threatened. The expression on her face made it clear to Nina that she wasn't joking.

"So, do you prefer me sending the video to my husband or cooking for me?" Lily asked.

Nina was terrified at the mere mention of the video in Lily's possession. She knew she would be kicked out of the house completely if Ofor was to find out that she had allowed her driver to eat her honey. So, after a few seconds of reflection, she reluctantly entered Lily's kitchen and started cooking.

"So, what is your relationship with the driver? Is he your boyfriend? And when did you start dating?" Lily asked Nina. They were in the kitchen. Lily was walking around and watching Nina like a supervisor as she was cooking.

"I don't want to talk about the driver. It's my private life and you have no rights to interfere in it." Nina said.

"My dear, you don't have privacy anymore. You better tell me the whole truth. If you tell me the whole truth, I promise to protect your secret and also to delete this video in my phone. But if you keep the secret from me, I will be forced to show it to my husband and expose you." Lily said with a mischievous smile. She was playing a game and she knew Nina would fall for the trick.

"Are you sure you will delete the video if I tell you the truth?" Nina asked, turning her attention from the food on the gas cooker.

"Yes! Once you tell me the truth, I will delete the video and I promise never to mention it to anyone." Lily said.

"Alright! The driver is not just my driver. He is also my boyfriend. I recommended him because I love him. The truth is that he is the father of my unborn child. Please, don't tell anybody about this." Nina pleaded with Lily.

"Hmmm! I must say you are a strong girl. I said it that the speed with which you got pregnant was extremely extraordinary. Well, your secret is safe with me. Come, let's delete the video together." Lily said to Nina. Nina drew closer and watched as Lily tapped on the delete button on her phone and removed the video.

"It's gone! But as I have helped you, you have to help me too. You will have to convince my husband to bring me back to the main house. I can't be staying here at the boys quarters. My status is above this place." Lily said.

"I will do that." Nina said happily, knowing that the video will not be a threat to her again. She could take anything from Lily, but she cannot afford to be thrown out of the house.

Later that evening, Nina spoke to Ofor, begging him to bring Lily back to the main house.

"Are you sure about this? I don't want anyone to come and be disturbing you. You are the mother of my unborn child and I want you to have maximum comfort." Ofor said.

"I'm sure of what I want. Believe me, Lily is a very good person. We just had a minor misunderstanding the other time. I noticed that she is not happy at the boys quarters. She should come back, because I miss her too." Nina said. Ofor agreed and Lily was restored to the main building that same evening.

"You have to go to the restaurant to buy fried rice and chicken for me. That's what I want to eat tonight." Lily tells Nina. She was sitting in a couch in the living room, feeling like the madam of the house once again.

"You can't be sending me around. I have helped you to regain your status in the main house and I think you should reciprocate by not sending me. I'm not going anywhere and infact, I won't be running errands for you. If you try anything, I will tell my husband to send you back to the boys quarters." Nina threatened.

"Nina, please come let me show you something." Lily said, beckoning to Nina. When Nina came closer to her, Lily opened her phone and went to the recycle bin and then showed her that the video which she deleted was still in her phone.

"All I have to do is click 'restore' and it will come back. Also, I recorded everything you told me about your boyfriend." Lily said. She tapped her phone and played Nina's voice when she confessed that her unborn baby belonged to the driver.

"Now, I have two strong evidence to nail you. You either obey me in the house or I will expose you." Lily said.

Nina had no choice but to go to the restaurant to buy the rice for Lily. However, when she was coming back, she bought rat poison and sprinkled on the food.

"I will rather eliminate you than to allow you to be tormenting me. It's over for you after eating this food." Nina said as she was going home to give Lily the food.
