The Second Wife Episode Eight

Nina was shocked to see Lily stepping out from the driver's room. She knew Lily was not just there to greet her boyfriend, but she was there on a mission. Nina decided the right thing to do was to confront Lily without waisting time.

"What are you doing here? You should be in your room sleeping. Look at the time, and you are still outside in a man's room. What is it that you are looking for in the driver's room? If you don't say the truth, I will tell our husband that I saw you here at an ungodly hour of the night." Nina said. In hear mind, she was thinking she had finally found something to use and nail Lily, something she would also hold as a secret against her. But she was mistaken.

"I forgot that this room belongs to your man. It belongs to your boyfriend, the man you are cheating on our husband with. Well, I know you have left your room to come and service your engine. I'm beginning to think your engine enjoys your boyfriend's spanner more than that of your husband. Let me ask, is Ofor's spanner not working properly? Why are you always sneaking out of bed every night?" Lily asked, conveniently ignoring Nina's questions.

"You have not answered my question. I asked what you are doing here in the driver's room?" Nina asked again, this time around with a louder and a more serious tone.

"You want to hear it? Okay. I came to collect that thing you have been collecting. I came to enjoy what you have been enjoying. Who doesn't like good thing? My engine is getting rusty since you snatched my husband and banished me from the bedroom. I have to come to the driver's room so he will help me service and oil my engine. You are not the only one who knows how to enjoy something good." Lily said with a sarcastic smile on her face.

Lily was not scared to say it to Nina's face that she came to tap current from the driver. Lily knew that in the battle for supremacy in the compound, she has been having the upper hand, just that she still lacks that one thing she so much craved: she wants to get pregnant by all means and bear her husband a child.

"You are such a shameless woman. How can you proudly say you left your husband's house to be with another man in the night? You are saying it with pride as if what you have done is something to be proud of. You should hide your face in shame for cheating on our husband." Nina said.

"If I hide my face in shame, what will you now do? You are talking as if you are not here for the same food I came to eat. You have been eating this cucumber from the day the driver entered this compound and you are even pregnant for him. You eat this cucumber every night and you are not ashamed. So, why should I be ashamed for taking a single bite in just one night? For your information, I will be coming here every night to be serviced by the driver. You should better get used to it." Lily said. She knew there was nothing to be afraid of since she had tangible secrets against Nina.

"I'm going to tell our husband that you have been sleeping around. First thing in the morning, I will graciously break the news to him. You know he loves me and he believes whatever I tell him. He will not only divorce you, he will make sure you are kicked out of the compound empty handed. Just wait and see. Finally, I have something to use and show you pepper." Nina threatened. She was steaming like a boiling pot as she talked.

"Don't worry, I will be the one to tell him. He will certainly believe my own story more than yours. Remember, I have a video evidence and I had recorded your voice when you admitted that the driver is the father of your unborn child. Don't worry my dear, I will just take the report to him myself." Lily said as she started leaving the room.

All these while, the driver has been silent in his room. He was listening to the conversation between Nina and Lily, not knowing what to say. However, when he heard Lily saying she was going to show Ofor the video, he became aware that he would be in trouble. He came out to talk to Lily and Nina.

"Madam please wait. Please, don't tell Oga anything. Please, there will be serious trouble if Oga sees the video in your phone. All of us will be in trouble. Please, come inside let us settle this problem in peace." The driver said. He led Nina and Lily into his room and locked the door tightly.

"Please there's no need to fight over this. None of you should worry yourselves. I'm the one sharing the cucumber and I have enough cucumber to go round. None of you should tell Oga about this. You people want your engines to be serviced, and I'm here to do it. The spanner is my own, and I'm not buying the oil from the market. I have the yam that you want. Don't worry, it will go round. I want us to agree that nobody will mention this to Oga, because all of us will lose if the secret comes out into the open. We should just keep calm and get what we want. There's no need to pull down the house and scatter things for each other." The driver said. Nina and Lily saw wisdom in his words.

The agreement was sealed among the three of them. They agreed to live in peace and keep the secret. Two months later, Lily got pregnant. She was shocked.

"So, why have I not gotten pregnant for the past twelve years? Nina's driver serviced me and I got pregnant within two months. I'm confused right now, even though I'm happy. I have to find out why my husband couldn't get me pregnant." Lily said after she went to the hospital to confirm.
