Second Sunday after Pentecost

This Sunday we celebrate an "ordinary" Sunday as we also celebrate Father's Day. Pentecost and Trinity Sunday are the last of the large celebrations in the church for the summer - now that they are over we begin "extraordinary" time - where Nature explodes into glory and we spend more time outdoors!
We celebrate this Sunday with some favorite hymns of fathers in our congregation at St Peter's Birch Cove. "Be Thou My Vision" is one of the most often requested hymns and refers to God as a Father in verse 2 - "Thou my great Father, and I Thy true son/Thou in me dwelling and I with Thee one."
Another favorite hymn is "Joyful, Joyful, We Adore Thee" which speaks about the joy that we know when we experience support from a Loving Parent; "Thou our Father and our Mother, all who live in love are thine". As I think of my own father who has recently passed away, I will remember all of the Joy that I learned from him - from his Music, his Laughter, and his Love.
Wherever this Father's Day finds us, may we make the time to remember all those that have guided and supported us like a father. As we begin this season of "extraordinary" time, may we give thanks for every tree and flower that grows and blooms around us. And, as we draw very close to the season of Summer, may we join in the Song of Creation with great Joy. Amen.
