Documentary Filmmaker-Photographer-Doc Doctor: 2 Oscar noms - Emmy - Peabody - James Beard - Florentine Films
I am pleased to inform you I was awarded Best Director of A Documentary by the Chain NYC Film Festival for The Second Life of Jamie P. We won the Big Apple Film Festival, are semi-finalists at JellyFEST in L.A., the film will be shown at Stamped, an LGBT festival in Pensacola, and at the Lulea Film Festival in Sweden....
Jamie Peebles always thought she was a man. Until, "like a bolt of lightning," at age 63, she realized she's a woman. We follow her emotional, revelatory, and often funny transition for a year.
It's a crowded field but we're finding our audience: Three hospitals are interested in showing the film to their staffs: Mount Sinai and NYU Langone in New York and Sutter Health in California. We've received high praise from families of trans people who say every trans family member should watch. And, trangenders themselves have reacted very positively to our universal story: it can create better understanding among cisgenders, which is exactly why I made The Second Life of Jamie P. I think law enforcement is an ideal audience; like healthcare they are in contact with transgender people more than any group. Jamie and I are ready to hit the road to attend screenings and conferences.
If you'd like to discuss setting up a screening or bringing us to your conference, please get in touch.
Take a look at the trailer and you'll see how powerful Jamie's story is.
