A Second Helping of July Goodness...

Our 2nd 4x4 of the month will look at the elegant and sinuous work of Kuri Huang. Inspired by the Art Nouveau movement and the conventions of Japanese Nihonga painting, Kuri's work balances traditional aesthetic themes with fresh modern styling to create something truly original. ?Her images have proved hugely flexible and she has had the pleasure of working with clients from the games industry, sci-fi and fantasy publishing, advertising and branding design teams.

Recognised by Cannes Lions and nominated for a Hugo

Award, her work goes from strength to strength and we are so looking forward to sharing new, exciting projects later this year which are currently under wraps. ?

Kuri Huang has worked extensively with the wonderful team at Fairyloot Books to create some of the most exquisite wrap-around covers for fantasy novels. ?Her ethereal, labyrinthine illustrations mirror perfectly the complex intrigue and gallantry of the genre. Her palette varies with each title to differentiate between the novels whilst carrying the flavour of a series beautifully.

Kuri's work lends itself perfectly to branding where the company's ethos is freedom and joy. ?This exceptional piece for Dream Cruises appeared in all its glory both port and starboard of the ship, Explorer Dream. Displaying a magical underwater seascape, it brought sunshine and ebullience to a wonderful holiday experience. ?

Lilith Games commissioned Kuri Huang to create a majestic image for their LPG, Afk Arena. ?The dream-like landscape and fine detail give a real presence to the central character and draw the player into a new world full of exciting possibilities. ?

Kuri's jewel-like palette gives richness to the design and supports the fantasy narrative in a clear and inventive way.

Kuri loves nothing more than getting her teeth into a publishing series. ?This gorgeous image for Illumicrate was one of a trilogy of Young Adult novels by the terrific, Natasha Ngan. Each cover is distinct in its colour palette and yet they hang together as one in this special edition gift collection. Sumptuous and engaging as ever.
