The Two Accounts of Life
Why You Need to Invest in Your Personal Well-being
We often focus solely on the financial aspect of our lives, forgetting about the other account that is equally important- our personal well-being. Neglecting our personal energy and spirit can result in stress, tiredness, and even negative interactions with others. Therefore, it is essential to make deposits in this special account just like we do in our financial account. In this blog post, we will discuss the importance of investing in your personal well-being and provide tips on how to make deposits into this account.
"You yourself, as much as anybody in the entire universe, deserve your love and affection." - Buddha
We all have two accounts in our lives: the first one is the obvious one where our hard work gives us a paycheck, and we worry about making ends meet, paying the bills, and providing for our loved ones. However, there's another account that we often forget about – the account of our spirit, our personal energy, our soul, our mind, and our well-being.
We withdraw from this account every day, but we seldom deposit anything into it. In stressful times, withdrawals from this account come with fines and extra fees.
So, I challenge every one of us to help each other make deposits into this special account.
First and foremost, we need to give thanks to one another and let people know that they are important to us. We need to empathize with each other's feelings and focus on the positive traits and values that we share. Each thank you, each smile we create on someone else's lips and hearts is a deposit of 100 times over to that person – but also to the person giving the deposit.
As individuals, we also need to say thank you to ourselves. We need to take those moments to do something fun, to do something that says "hey there is good, there is fun, there is positive in me, my world." It is okay to take a
break and read a story, watch a TED talk, or take a walk and feel the sun on your face. Finding a moment for a prayer of thanks, help, or guidance can also be a great way to deposit into your own account.
Let's make deposits into both of our accounts – the financial one and the spiritual one – and help each other make deposits too. By doing so, we'll all be richer in the end.

“The only true wisdom is in knowing you know nothing." – Socrates
It's important to remember that when we're stressed, we tend to forget about our personal well-being account. We may unintentionally snap at loved ones, ignore people in need, and focus on negative thoughts instead of positive ones. These actions deplete our account and have consequences that can impact both ourselves and those around us.
There are times when we all have our moments of weakness. Maybe we're tired, overwhelmed, or just having a bad day. It's easy to lose sight of what's truly important and get caught up in negativity. But it's important to acknowledge when we make withdrawals from our account and take responsibility for them.
I have had my fair share of moments where I was less kind than I should have been. I regret those moments and know they depleted the accounts of those around me.
But there are also moments when we receive unexpected deposits that fill our
account to the brim. For me, it was the sound of my young daughter's voice on the phone, exclaiming "Daddy, Daddy, My Daddy, Daddy..." that gave me an instant boost of happiness and love. It's these simple yet powerful moments that remind us of the importance of our personal well-being account. My account and my heart were overflowing.
