Season's greetings from Maritime UK
Maritime UK
The collective voice for the UK's maritime industries. We champion and work to enable a thriving maritime sector.
Maritime UK's 2022 in review
Each Christmas Maritime UK writes a year-end review, sharing key activities and developments for the organisation and wider sector across the year. This year, again, we have seen real progress by Maritime UK and its members, as well as in close partnership with the government.?
There have been several headline policy wins as well as strengthening industry commitment to delivering Maritime 2050, particularly through industry-led programmes. There have also been significant headwinds, but the sector has worked well together to respond. There will be much to do in 2023, not least in working with government to produce a Clean Maritime Plan that helps move the dial on maritime decarbonisation, but we are in a strong position to be able to deliver on the level of ambition shared across industry.?
Special thanks to our member organisations who choose to collaborate through Maritime UK. Without their proactive commitment to collaboration, we would not be able to make the progress that we are making. Earlier in the year were pleased to welcome a new member in the form of the Connected Places Catapult. The catapult is increasing its focus on the maritime sector, and by becoming members, is able to work as closely as possible with industry to maximise the impact of their interventions within the maritime sector.?
News: Maritime Skills Commission launches Skills Intelligence Model with Port Skills and Safety
The Maritime Skills Commission is announcing a new partnership with Port Skills and Safety Ltd to deliver the first Skills Intelligence Model for the maritime sector. The model will be delivered through the National Skills Academy for Rail (NSAR).
In March 2022, the Maritime Skills Commission (MSC) endorsed and launched the Future Ports Workforce report which recommended clarity on which body is leading on port skills and a more joint working within the ports and maritime sector to drive improvements in diversity. It also recommended that the MSC undertake a systematic review of how skills are used now, and anticipated changes in skills/job requirements in the future and investigate priority near-term skills gaps/shortages, including learning lessons from other sectors.
Invite: Maritime Leaders Forum: Session 2
The second session of the Maritime Leaders Forum will be held on Monday 13 February at Trinity House. Dr Iain Percy, CEO of Artemis Technologies, will lead the forum on how businesses can build successful consortia to deliver international success, attract funding and accelerate progress towards our climate change objectives.
The forum is an opportunity for you to influence policy and share best practice with other leaders, as we work to energise the UK Maritime Sector while meeting the national and international Climate Change objectives. Iain Percy will make a keynote presentation which will be followed by an exchange of ideas and questions. At the conclusion of the formal session there will be a networking reception. As leaders, we face shared challenges, right across the maritime sector. Trinity House and Maritime UK have recognised the need to bring leaders together to discuss their approach to shared challenges, share practicable actions and discuss future priorities for action from both government and industry.
