Do we ever wonder where the word seasons came from and how we have now interpreted them to be stages of our life or passages of time? The word “season” actually comes from the Old French “seison”, meaning “sowing / planting”. Initially this referred to sowing seeds, but later, as with the Old French “seison”, changed the definition to refer to when you sow seeds, “seedtime”.?Similar to the controversy right now on Daylight Savings Time, it was the foundation for the farmers and when to be prepared to plant for the harvest. My question to you would be do you take time to plant your seeds in each season? And what does that look like to you? What is the harvest for which you are hoping?
This season has been one of change and trust. Learning to lean in hard on what I want “most” not what I want “now.” You see I am a very impatient person, as we have all learned in my other articles, so using my trust muscle is something that has to be exercised and used as often as possible to keep it in shape, laughing. Seasons of trust are ones that can look different for everyone in that season. Trusting our plans, our family, our friends, our faith, and so on…. They also involve the unknown often, when we have to reach down and pull up the bootstrap’s and say we know that something better is on it’s way, I need to put one foot in front of the other to keep moving towards what looks to be the best next step for me. Boots just seem appropriate living in Nashville now, don’t they?
What is it about seasons of change? Ooh, uncertainty feels icky, doesn’t it? There are some people that live for it, I would just go on the record to say, that is not me! Smiling. I like planning, order, things to feel like they are in place at all times, listen I even have (2) roomba’s working in the house at all times, thanks to my golden retrievers. I am the OCD person that nightmares are made of! I just like to know all is in order and I can count on things. But is that really what is best for us? Probably not, and walking through a current season of change, I am sure its not. Change says listen, I am going ruffle the perfect plan and move things around a bit to allow you to grow and stretch. Change says I will not leave you where you are at, but allow you to be so much more than you thought you would be? Isn’t that right?

California to Nashville was a change for sure, and I knew I needed to do it, just didn’t realize till now, how much. I laugh and tell people, if it doesn’t work out in my career, I can always become a country singer, but man if you really heard me sing, you would gently pat me on the back and say, “Sure Angie”! ?That is why we also need that thing called a “Leap of faith.” They are always part of a season of change and provide that runway to the next part of your journey. Still one of my all-time favorite lines, “You have to risk it for the biscuit!” Its being bold, and stepping out, when everyone is stepping back. It shows your heart that you are so much more than you thought you were if you take a chance. I want to always be someone moving forward not back, but it will involve change.
During this holiday season, think of what seeds you can plant for your next season. Seeds of time that you spend with your family, or the seed of knowledge with the business book you haven’t taken time to read. It could be the seeds of health and taking better care of yourself. It could also be the seeds of rest, and allowing your brain to slow down so you can be your best and hit the ground running when that next adventure comes your way. Lots of different seeds can be planted so they are ready for harvest. Embrace the seasons and the seed planting knowing that in time, the crops will be more than you thought they would be, and you have gained a harvest that was fully realized by your leap of faith.
