Seasonality Affecting SERPs, Houseplants… And Online Marketing

I had a great time today speaking on the?SEO panel at the Mid Atlantic Marketing Summit.?

Notes that I jotted down:

Top answers to what are you paying close attention to in SEO?

  • Helpful Content update
  • Google Analytics 4 ASAP
  • Solving for searchers intent is hugely important

STAT Search Analytics for visualization of performance of brand terms was mentioned as a tool to keep an eye on.?

Mistakes brands are making with SEO

  • Only writing content for bottom of the funnel
  • Not answering questions their ideal buyers are asking/thinking about.

Leading into myths marketers still believe:

  • Quantity is good for blog posts
  • SEO is magic and doesn't require investment, and
  • Only longform content is going to rank.??

In the newsletter last week, I mentioned that given the (relative) success of the newsletter?experiment on LinkedIn, I was going to try a webinar on LinkedIn.?Unsurprisingly, the process of setting it up was clunky. <deleting several paragraphs of painful details>

What were the results??

  • LinkedIn has a cap of 1k people you can invite to an event/week.?I probably invited 500ish relevant people.?The "invite" functionality is rough - picture a window on your screen, with no ability to resize it, and endless?scrolling.??
  • 29 people registered.
  • About 10 attended.??

Both the invites to registration ratio and attendee to registration ratios were very good.?6% of invitees sign up was fantastic and speaks to the ability to target the right people and the ease that LinkedIn provides in clicking to sign up.?However, as familiar in most?"building on rented land" platforms, there are?drawbacks including a lack of ability to message attendees?and no post event?follow up options.??

Next time??More lead time, as it seems to take a little time for the LinkedIn algorithm (its version of SEO) to catch up and put in front of potentially interested people you haven't invited.?And, we will probably go to the trouble of figuring out a streaming platform to use for LinkedIn Live, to see what kind of boost we get for using LinkedIn's tool vs. an external one.??
