“We might think we are nurturing our garden, but of course it’s our garden that is really nurturing us.”?Jenny Uglow
When reviewing the data around when donors tend to give during the year, there was of course a lot of focus on the 22% of online gifts happening during December. Yet, for many nonprofits, there were very clear seasonal dips during periods in summer and early autumn.
There can be many reasons for this, but there was a hidden gem within the data within the report - our research with Professor Searing showed that these months can be a prime time for acquiring recurring gifts.?
We’re huge fans of recurring giving programs here, with our research also showing that on average, recurring donors gave $63 per month - this equates to $756 per year from just one donor!?
Solid communication is key to maximizing the potential of recurring donors, so I'd highly encourage your organization to put time and effort into creating dedicated emails specific to recurring donors.
What are some of the ways you think your organization can address seasonal slumps?
