Seasonal employment can be a good opportunity for all kinds of situations — you need extra money for the holidays, or you’ve been looking for a job anyway, or you’re aiming for that employee discount for your own holiday shopping.
Many workers in our recent poll said they need the extra income due to inflation and the current economy (72.6%), and 43.7% say they need the money to pay for holiday gifts. A little more than a third (35.8%) are hoping to turn their seasonal job into permanent employment.?
Although some companies are hiring fewer seasonal workers than in previous years, there are still thousands of opportunities to earn extra cash this year.?

1-800-FLOWERS plans to hire more than 8,000 seasonal and year-round associates nationwide as it prepares to meet holiday and ongoing demand. Most available roles will be in Illinois, Ohio and Oregon in high-volume areas including production, gift assembly, distribution and operational support. There are also remote contact center positions available. Associates will get competitive pay, flexible schedules and an employee discount.?
Amazon intends to hire 150,000 workers in full-time, seasonal and part-time positions. Jobs range from packing and picking to sorting and shipping, and workers can earn more than $19 an hour. In some locations, sign-on bonuses of $1,000 to $3,000 are possible. The most positions are available in California, Idaho, Illinois, Iowa, Michigan, Missouri, Oregon, Texas, Tennessee, Utah and Washington. Full-time employees get access to a 401(k) with 50% company match and health, vision and dental insurance, among other perks.?
DHL Supply Chain plans to hire 12,000 warehouse workers for peak holiday season, most of which will be in the company’s e-commerce and retail customer focused facilities. Workers will work alongside 2,000 collaborative robots that help reduce walking time.?
Kohl’s will be hiring for full-time and part-time roles in stores, fulfillment and distribution centers, and e-commerce fulfillment centers, including the store’s omni power centers. Associates are eligible for flexible scheduling, weekly paychecks and a 15% employee discount, plus special shopping events with up to 35% off.?
Target announced that it plans to hire 100,000 seasonal team members for stores and supply chain facilities. The retailer is offering a starting wage of $15 to $24 an hour, and seasonal hires have access to flexible scheduling, well-being benefits and team member discounts. Current workers will set their holiday schedules before Target hires seasonal workers.?
Almost a third (30%) of Target seasonal team members stay on permanently when the holidays are over.?
UPS intends to hire more than 100,000 seasonal employees to handle the shipping crush around the holidays. The company will be hiring for delivery and CDL drivers, package handlers and driver helpers. UPS uses a digital-first hiring process that can be completed in only 25 minutes, from online application to job offer, and almost 8 in 10 seasonal positions don’t require interviews.?
UPS historically keeps a number of its seasonal hires on permanently — in 2021, almost 35,000 seasonal workers stayed on.?
Walmart plans to hire 40,000 associates in seasonal and full-time positions ahead of the holidays. This includes seasonal store associates, full-time and permanent truck drivers for the Walmart Private Fleet, and customer care associates for customer call centers. Current associates will have first dibs on additional hours before seasonal associates are hired.?
Walmart highlights that 75% of their salaried management team in U.S. stores, clubs and supply chain started as hourly associates. Full-time associates have access to medical coverage, no-cost counseling, a PTO policy and potentially a 401(k) match and stock purchase plan match.
