Hi All,
Welcome to the next posting on Learnoscope!
As I start penning this article, I am reminded of my days in sales and how I moved into training. It was a great move and today when I look back I am happy and satisfied that I made this transition.
Working in sales was a great experience and I networked with lot of people and sold products that probably added value to my customers. I use the word probably because I am unsure if they did whatsoever.
Today in this article I want to highlight on 2 insightful learning of my life which makes me realize in hindsight that my transition into training from sales and the subsequent journey was a right decision and justifies, validates, testifies the following 2 learning of life -
Learning 1: "Greatness is not a function of chance; greatness it turns out, is largely a matter of conscious choice" - by Jim Collins (Author of Good to Great)
For me it appears that I have transformed as an individual because of the conscious choice I made. Many of my friends and ex-colleagues are still there with a deep desire to make a new change of leaf in their lives but unable to make it.
I see this for two reasons - 1. Fear of the unknown and 2. Denial to Change.
I see these two elements as the prime enemy for success. Greatness will keep eluding us till we break open the shackles of fear and change phobia.
Life opens chances only when we make the conscious choice to grab them. We make our decisive choices and are responsible for their consequences. Choices made may face you with some adaptable struggles but that is not failure. Success is just ahead of us.
Learning 2: "A good life is one that is characterized by complete absorption in what one does" - by Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi (Founder of 'The Flow' concept)
In his Flow concept Mihaly beautifully clarifies that when individuals attain a sense of flow - meaning a deep current within them which gives them the highest level of happiness and satisfaction, that is when they achieve their fullest potential.
In the fight between the skills vs challenges when we work towards up- skilling our strengths post their identification and handle the challenges using them successfully, we see ourselves grow both internally and externally. When we consciously choose a role that kills boredom, anxiety, apathy and only gives immense arousal, relaxation, pleasure, satisfaction, we experience the flow within us
My transition to training from sales made me realize this flow in me. When ever I am creating a training program and delivering them helping people identify their true potential through my workshops, that is when I feel the flow. When people come back with success stories and thank me, that is when I feel the flow.
Continuous, constant and consistent experience of this flow within me drives me to exemplary performance, triggers me to stretch myself without any external force. This learning of flow has made me thirsty for more, make me always strive for excellence and contribute. It also has made me re-look at the very purpose of my job, the inner meaning of my role and how I can contribute towards my organization and my people - There is a constant attempt to search for the 'nobler motive' in whatever i do.
Through this article I would like to urge and push all my readers to go and search their 'flow' and take the decision to not just sit in the stands, but take the court and take the risk. Make the leap, net will automatically appear.
When I can do it ......all of you can do it...... this flow is real...rest all is surreal.....
All the Best!
