Don’t rely on assumptions about your customer A little while ago I was running an audit for a high-end jewellery shop advertising engagement rings.
The assumption that the advertiser was working with, was that their paid search traffic consisted mainly of men preparing to propose (I assumed that too, until I discovered otherwise...)?
The ad text, landing pages and everything they were laying out for the buying journey was based on that idea.
But a look at the Demographics reports showed that clicks from male users were in fact, less than 1/2 the volume of clicks from female users.
This called for a complete rethink about who's visiting the site, why, and what their expectations are.
Are these the clicks we want to be paying for??
If they are, what shifts do we need to make inorder to meet these users where they are, and bring them (and/or their fiances?) closer to conversion?
It’s not often that one report throws up such a significant insight… but be ready to act when it does!
