Sydney Seaplane Incident Investigated
A Sydney Seaplanes Cessna 208 Caravan I, registration VH-ZWH, encountered an incident during takeoff from Sydney Harbour, near Rose Bay Water Airport, NSW, Australia, resulting in substantial damage. The aircraft, manufactured in 2006 and powered by a Pratt & Whitney Canada PT6A-114A engine, struck an object with its port float, leading to its collapse. Among the nine on board, one sustained minor injuries, and the Australian Transport Safety Bureau is conducting an investigation into the incident. Biden DOJ May Revoke Boeing's Immunity Deal
President Joe Biden's Justice Department is considering rescinding a deferred prosecution agreement (DPA) with Boeing, previously granted by Donald Trump's administration following two Boeing 737 Max crashes. This agreement, criticized by crash victims' families and challenged in court by air safety advocates, prevented Boeing from facing criminal prosecution for fraud. The reconsideration follows allegations in a recent lawsuit claiming Boeing supplier Spirit AeroSystems engaged in fraudulent activities, potentially violating the DPA's terms. EASA Issues New A320 Wing Inspection Directive
The European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) updated its airworthiness directive on January 25, 2024, now requiring inspections for fatigue cracking in specific areas of both Airbus A320ceo and A321neo family aircraft wings. This directive, effective February 8, 2024, includes aircraft with Sharklets modifications, previously applicable only to certain A320ceo models. Airlines must report any detected cracks to Airbus for approved repair instructions, with specific requirements for A321neo aircraft and additional post-repair inspections mandated within set flight hour or cycle thresholds.
