As per the SDG Report 2021: https://sdgs.un.org/goals/goal8

1.?????Globally almost 255 million full time jobs were lost it’s 4 times more than 2007 to 2009 global economic slowdown.

2.?????To come back to 2.2% growth of global real GDP per capita, early 2019 standards, it will take 2023 economies across the globe as all of them fell down by 4.4% in 2020.

3.?????1.6 Billion workers attached to informal economy having no social security had no earning sources during pandemic as they were living hand to mouth.

4.?????Tourism got totally devastated due to lockdowns during pandemic. In place of 2019’s 1.5 billion people travelling only 381 million people travelled in 2020, thus it will take 2025 only to come back to that peak again.

5.?????Pandemic has led 31.1% young Women and 14% young men unemployed. May be many will not be able attain higher studies if their parents lost the job, so we need to be conscious here after and deal this generation with care.

6.?????Due to lack of funds at home, many youngies will lose on education and training as well as per the UN stats website SDG 2021 Report.

7.?????In our own Survey we found that even existing jobs of the teachers, and employees in private companies were affected and 100% were getting less salary than usual. Many in India and other countries lost their jobs during pandemic and whole informal sector employing inclusively got washed away, thus throwing billions into poverty. 80% middle people class fell down below poverty line, as they had no source of income.

8.?????When visited to certain housing loans companies their 80% EMI got defunct. In one Survey we found that only Government Employees and Big Businessmen could pay their EMI on time, where as Housing EMI got sever jolt due to loss of job or salary got reduced in the private organizations. Buying good property at cheaper cost has increased and it seems richer will become still richer and poor will be thrown into debt trap. So again, concentration of power and money will go to influential, powerful and rich people it seems.

9.?????Hence, Course Correction is required for this SDG8 Goal Post Pandemic is my humble suggestion.

What is SDG8?

As per the UN SDG8 talks about achieving Sustained and inclusive economic growth that provides safe, decent and productive employment to all.

What are the Targets and Indicators of SDG8?

Target 8.1: Achieving at least 7% GDP growth per annum in Least Developed Countries and sustained per capita income in all the countries

Indicator 8.1.1: Annual Growth Rate of Real GDP per capita.

Target 8.2: This has many pointers clubbed in to one:

Achieve Higher level of productivity through diversification

????????Focus on high value-added sectors

????????Inclusive Focus also on Labor intensive sectors

Indicator 8.2.1: Annual Growth Rate of GDP per Employed person.

Target 8.3: Promoting Development oriented policies which has lot of job creating fundamentals clubbed together, like:

????????Decent Jobs creations,

????????Entrepreneurship development,

????????R & D and creativity and innovation,

????????Encouragement to Formal Sectors,

????????Helping growth of micros, small, medium, enterprises,

????????Mentorship for business growth,

????????Helping hand through Financial Services.

Indicator 8.3.1: Proportion of informal employment in non agriculture sector employment by gender i.e.

????????Employed Male/ Non-Agriculture Sector, etc.?

Target 8.4: By 2030, Stopping environmental degradation, following 10-year framework on Sustainable Consumption and Production, Developed countries should take a lead.?

????????Thus, not only carbon foot print but material foot print is also important if we have to save us and keep living on the mother earth

Target 8.5: Achieving Full Productive Inclusive Employment meaning even for persons with disabilities and with principle of equal pay for equal work for equal value irrespective their genders

Indicator 8.5.1: Average Hourly income in any occupation, by gender and for person with disabilities

Indicator 8.5.2: Unemployment Rate by gender and persons with disability

Target 8.6: By 2020, Reducing the youth unemployment, not in education and / or not under training to learn certain skills to get certain job or for his own entrepreneurship venture.

Indicator 8.6: Proportion of youth lying between age 15 to 24 years not in employment, education or training.

????????This needs course correction as, all can observe that Pandemic has forced many out of job, out of schools and out of trainings. Let’s work together to overcome this obstacle. As in one of our own Survey we found that UNEMPLOYMENT is one of the biggest causes of concern on Mother Earth.

Target 8.7: Eradicating child labour and exploitation, irrespective of their gender, in all its forms by 2025 and it definitely needs course correction as lot of people are forced below poverty line and if parents lost the job their children cannot to schools these kids might be forced to do anything by force by socially negative people i.e. antisocial elements. It’s an Alarming point. Governments need to keep a track positively using SIN, Unique ID, AADHAR, Citizenship cards on children in their respective countries, as positive minded children are the best future.

Indicator 8.7.1: Proportion and number of children aged between 5 to 17 years engaged in exploitative work by gender and age.

Target 8.8: Protecting Labor rights to local and migrant workers and promoting and providing safe and secure environment to every worker, especially working in unsafe, precarious work, irrespective of their gender

Indicator 8.8.2:

????????Level of National Level of compliance of labor rights by gender and migrant status, as per the textual sources of national legislature,

????????Level of International Labor Organization (ILO) compliance of labor rights by gender and migrant status

Target 8.9:?By 2030, devising a plan that helps growth in tourism which helps growing employment by services and promoting local products and culture

Indicator 8.9.1: (Tourism Direct or Related GDP/ Total GPD) and growth in this ratio.

????????This needs course correction as whole tourism industry was halted due to pandemic.

Target 8.10: Banking and Insurance Services should reach at the grassroot level and hence strengthening the local banking and financial institutions

Indicator 8.10.1:?

????????Number of ATM (Automated Teller Machines)/ 100000 adults

????????Number of Commercial Banks Branches/ 100000 adults

Indicator 8.10.2:

????????Proportion of Adults age above 15 years holding bank account or holding account with mobile money service providers

8.a: Increased Aid for Trade Support for developing countries, including enhanced Trade Related Technical Assistance to Least Developed Countries

Indicator 8.a.1: Aid for Trade Commitments and Disbursements

Target 8.b: By 2020, Developing and operationalizing the strategy for the youth employment and implementing the Global Jobs Pact of the International Labor Organization (ILO)

Indicator 8.b.1: Existence and Developed and Operationalized national strategy for Youth Employment which should be independent from the national Strategy of overall employment.
