Ciénaga de Zapata is a beautiful region with outstanding natural attributes. It is the largest, most important wetlands in the insular Caribbean and is in the main nucleus of the Zapata Biosphere Preserve (2000) and of the Ramsar site of the same name (2001). It is a natural reservoir of enormous value, as recognized at national, regional and world levels.

Scuba diving and snorkeling are among the most important activitiess in this region. Our resort has four International Scuba Diving Centers: Playa Larga, Punta Perdiz, Playa Girón and Caleta Buena. All offer different courses, such as Open Water and Advanced, etc with SSI international Certification. There are 11 diving sites ava in the region environmentally certified by the reliable authorities. Some of these sites are linked to legends about pirates and corsairs that once marauded in the zone. Scuba diving with nitrox is also possible.

Dives are made directly from the coast. Boats are not needed to reach the ocean wall. The proximity of the walls is between 80 and 100 meters from the coast. That allows divers to make 3 immersions daily: double during the day, plus a nocturnal immersion. These characteristics facilitate the Multilevel diving, descending from the coast slowly to the depth desired by the scuba divers and vice versa. Additionally, deep diving is also possible -- descending even more than 30 meters. One of the main attractions of scuba diving in the region are four small deliberately sunken ships (Type: Ferrocemento, 15 length x 5 meters wide) They have abundant subaquatic life in their structures. Tunnels, cliffs, and flaps are very common in the bottom of this region. The bottoms also exhibit diverse varieties of corals, sponges and fishes. The abrupt wall, about 40 meters from the coast, is another attraction with its big sizes sponges, gorgonians and corals.
