We're massive advocates of the principles of Agile delivery and Scrum and have been since the early days of yboo
In my mind, the principles are clear and super simple and enable you to drive rapid progress with your Kanban board acting as a 'live' dashboard of what's happening and why.
Whether you agree with the principles or think they are utter BS, one thing is for sure. Whether you implement them all or use parts of the framework / principles to suit your own organisation, you will increase visibility of your priorities and give everyone in org a better sense of community and belonging.
I've delivered many Transformation programmes (in my previous life) and whilst organisations not using the principles didn't necessarily fail, they did move more slowly and as we all know, time is money.
So back to the point, how did these principles help rightcoverage to grow?
As you all know, people wise, rightcoverage is tiny. It's basically myself and Paul with some bits of design work outsourced as and when we need to. We're tiny, yes, but there is one principle which has directly supported our growth and that principle is 'Shared Decision Making Power'.
Whether you are a team of 2 or 222, if you're all equally responsible for success or failure, shared decision making power (SDMP) will help you to move more quickly and really focus on defining key success criteria.
SDMP also means you're able to ensure everyone brings the 'whole' of themselves into the decision making process. Mo and Jen from Finance/Commercial may have experience from previous roles in other organisations which you want and need to hear. Make sense?
In a small Scale Up like rightcoverage, the stakes are high. Mistakes can be costly. Some mistakes can kill your business for ever. SDMP is the only way to go, particularly when rising investment and / or bringing external stakeholders into the organisation.
Our decisions make rightcoverage thrive (generally) but some future decisions might kill us. Shared responsibility is the only way to go.
Stay safe out there.
